Fallout 3 – Review
Okies now I’ve given up on this utterly bad game. It’s unbelievable how bad this game actually is! I think I’ve encountered internet flash games or even advertising games that’s been funnier than this one. Well, I played this game for two reasons. One, Fallout was my first own game and two, PB kept nagging about it like it was a great game with the lame excuse that it was worth playing just because of the title… he was so fucking wrong.
Fallout is NOT Fallout, and call me whatever you like if you disagree with me because I will not listen to you and probably will not even CARE about your opinions anymore (if I even did it before this). Fallout is like many have said it to be, Oblivion with a post-apocalyptic theme and guns and shit. It’s so fucking alike Oblivion that it’s sad, because I actually enjoyed Oblivion until it kind of seemed like the game got stuck in itself…
I had a hard time getting through Fallout, the beginning is like the only thing in this game that is worth having even so it didn’t give one the feeling that this was fallout at all when a big junk pile (or guy in something probably meaning to be an Power Armour) went past the camera as if he were an alien or something. Yes, you really grasp what this fucking game was all about…
Then the growing up kind of thing is only for social interactions. Some claim that it’s for development of your character but actually it isn’t. You just get some too obvious choices in this lame tutorial and it will only slightly affect your relationship with these people in the future. You also have NO problem whatsoever to kill everyone in the Vault you begin with…
Well, that is actually nothing I care about that doesn’t really destroy the Fallout thing or even the game, the thing that is really annoying and makes the game idiotic to play is one, it’s an FPS and two the world is so stale and forced that it hurts. Something other that I don’t like is how awfully strange the Vaults have become.
Well if we look at the system it’s not good at all, not even the really strange explanation of your stats is really good. Not to mention that the time pauses when you look at your stats. If they hadn’t tried to come up with a reason to why then it should have been better just to leave it be, this is an inventory, so what you don’t need an in-game tool to make it logical to why you know everything you know about yourself, it’s a computer game for Christ sake!
Then we have this VATS system that was supposed to be a in-between thing from action points to a floating game. It’s not really comfortable version of things and you need to press a button each time to be able to use this fucking system. When you run out of AP then you need to exit the fucking thing and press the button again after you’ve been hit a couple of times, which is really idiotic. You can’t keep track of the fight and every slight move you make takes points from you and before you can hit the button to activate this thing again you’ve lost your points to do an attack…
It’s messy and it’s not a good way to make a battle, with two systems which is constantly going back to the usual system. But you need the VATS to be able to aim and do critical hits and cripple your enemies which are ENORMOUSLY efficient here. A head shot now really kills on one hit, which makes it strange that I am the only one that seems to succeed with this… I’ve been fighting about five raiders at the same time. I had a gun, they had rifles that made about twice as the damage as me and they had better armours too. I killed them with barely taking 30% damage. And that with only about 8-10 shots and they shot me like millions of times!
Well, the system is messy and needs a lot of readjusting if you ask me, a better way to make them smoother to use. But so far the battle system is only annoying. One other system that is annoying is that you need to go into your inventory all the time if you want to switch weapons and so far I haven’t seen any possibility to equip two weapons like in the previous games. And when we’re at it I could complain about a borderline thing and that is the bonus you get from wearing things… I mean WTF! This is something than only belongs in fuck-games also called MMO’s. Why would I get better in certain skills just because I wear different gear? One thing if a gear makes me more agile or stronger that is more reasonable but a gear that makes me better in mechanics even though it’s mostly just a shirt that belonged to a mechanic? This is something that I think should be realistic, more than the inventory system…
Well the biggest thing to make this game not Fallout is that the world doesn’t feel like Fallout at all. It feels just like a future post-apocalyptic game where you run around doing what you like and follow your father because you’ve been kicked out from the vault just because they wanted to kill you when the Overseer became crazy…
So in short this Fallout game has borrowed the title and some of the concept but it’s so fucking wrong and it don’t even feels good, not even in the slightest. Everything is too staged and stale and obvious for a good game. But then again I don’t like game but Fallout was fucking horrible and most likely there isn’t even anything in this game worth playing or even taking inspiration from. No, Bethesda has really disappointed me. Even the demo version of Van Burren was ten times better than this game that feels like a Punk-Steam game rather than a Fallout game.
Best regards,
