Playing Something Different
So, it was a while since I last used my Blog but I plan to put it to use again. Can’t let everything in my life stagnate.
Well, a quick summary of what’s ahead:
I’ve decided to change the core system of the new Nianze from NSP to a D12 Dice Pool system and before we delve too deeply into that I wish for my players to gain some perspective and thus test systems close to what I’m imaginig for Nianze’s future. So we are going to play one of the worlds greatest and most acknowledged game systems. White Wolf D10 Dice Pool system.
Most White Wolf games takes place in a joint universe called World of Darkness, which actually is just reality but twisted with different supernatural aspects. It is also stated that one can completely change the setting into whichever world one wishes, even though some of the fluff they made is not suited for all environments.
Either way, we are going to test playing this week one of their later instalments in the World of Darkness series called Hunter: The Vigil. Basically you1 are mundane terrorists/agents against the supernatural forces threatening mankind etcetera. You are a small cell of mismatched people with different skills that recently have been thrusted in the the world of darkness and evil and is pretty new to the whole concept of the world of super naturals.
Background
The characters presented in this scenario are all new to the Vigil, having encountered the Supernatural for the first time less than a week before the events of the first scene of this adventure. The three detectives (along with ther now deceased partner, Darnell Waters) all belong to the Special Cases Unit (SCU), a small police unit created by the Mayor’s Office with the stated goal of stemming the rapid growth of gangs in the city.
The unit worked hard to clean up the streets, but threats and procedural shortcuts soon turned into bribes and protection schemes, and they straied from the straight and narrow. The detective became involved with Raimundo2 and the Siete Muertos’ drug trafficing, but their carelessness eventually drew the attention of the Internal Affairs Bureau, leading to both an investigation and Agent Craver’s interest in the team.
While the SCU (along with Raimundo and a couple of his soldiers) followed Craver’s tip about strange activity in a downtown warehouse, they were attacked by flesh eating monsters called ghouls. Waters was taken by the ghouls as they made their escape into the sewers beneath the warehouse, and the cell vowed to track down the monsters and same him. Gaberski3 started by reaching out to Karl4, an old media contoct of his, and with his help they located the ghouls’ lairs.
The cell wiped out nearly all the ghouls, but was not in time to save Darnell Waters from a grisly fate. Galvanized by their exposure to the secret world around them, the characters accepted Craver’s offer of conditional membership in a special Task Force called VALKYRIE.
Now, not even a week after their fight with the ghouls, the IAB5 investigation has been shelved and they are tasked with looking into a gruesome (and clearly occult) murder.
Characters
I will not write everything here other than my own, personal summary of the roles of the characters you can choose to play.
The characters are divided into two groups, the Cops and the Civilians. First of is the SCU, cops:
Vince Gaberski – Liutenant
He is the leader of the SCU and also the bad-ass. He and Raimundo is childhood friends that grew up on two different sides of the law. He is undoubtely the leader of the cell and must be chosen by someone for the adventure to work. He has history with Karl and Andrea.
Andrea Taggart – Sergeant
Andrea and Gaberski met at the academy and has been tight pals ever since (read into it what you will). Now they are in the same boat but she is fiercly loyal to Gaberski and kind of a stern macho-woman. She is also the tactical leader of the team and I would say very essential to battles deploying special tactics.
Jack Dean – Detective
Slacker with a conscience. He strives for what is right and is very kind to everyone but his lazy nature sometimes gets in his way of doing… anything… at all. But with most lazy people, put under preassure and they are very resourceful in how to avoid doing anything that requires physical exertion.
Then the civilians:
Raimundo Guttierez – Gang Leader
Former gang leader, Raimundo has just lost or “left” his gang due to the incident a week ago. Now he is trying to make something out of his life after the loss and revelations and is set to protect the city from darkness, all of this to keep his sister Lupe, safe.
Karl Rivers – The Crazy Reporter
He has been on both sides of Vince’s mood but lately he found out a lot about the secret world and is very, very afraid of what he found. From the beginning he just wanted to find the Truth, but now when he found what seemed to be just a portion of it, he fiercely wished he hadn’t and know not what to do other than seek the protection of those who know like the VALKYRIE.
So, who are you intresested in? Take it over SMS.
