Clarifications on the Quest

I’ve been thinking about the Quest The Five have and the Gateway and think I will need to revise it a little.

Well, mainly the revisions are minor corrections of what I said, more thoroughly done in my mind. On paper the quest is mostly just the story and the reason. But what really lies beyond the Gateway and what effect it will have is something which will remain a mystery for you for quite some time.

The Gateway is a big arch, about 2,5-3 meters high, and 2-2,5 meters wide. The frame is about a foot thick. Where the corridor or opening would be is instead a sleek grey stone wall. Around the frame there are minor climbing plants growing, but mostly they have kept the Gateway clean. On the wall is also a faint intricate pattern etched into the stone, the pattern is similar in nature to Celtic Knots in reality. But it’s so worn down and faded that it’s mostly just a hint in some places, gone in others and relatively strong closest to the frame.

It’s in the pattern that one can clearly see five different shaped holes in the middle of five knots. One of the holes seems like a keyhole, and therefore they have assumed that the rest is as well. But they aren’t sure of this. In front of the Gateway is five plain faint circles, evenly spaced in a half-circle around the archway about 3-5 meters from the centre.

As for the rest of the big room, it’s mostly in ruins and shambles still. It’s visible that pillars have stand high in the room, but only one of probably a dozen pillars are still standing. One is almost whole, but resting over the cracked and broken fallen remnants of a third pillar. The rest of the pillars are either broken at their base, or fallen completely and shattered like big chunks of once grey, now green-grey rock shards. The walls are overgrown with vegetation, and only the floor where The United have cleaned up is clear of rubble and green life.

In the Chronicles of the Five little is mentioned about how to open the Gateway or close it. What is clear is that the Five opened the Gateway before anyone found this place. Their last days when they were spying on all the three competitors and gaining clues and stealing artefacts from them to in the end beat them to it. The Chronicle mentioned how King Demian closed the Gateway after himself and gave the task of keeping the Gateway secret and hidden until the Red Star was burning bright. They all swore a secret fealty to him on that day, and they all tried to lead the Rampant Bull away from the Gateway. Which they obviously succeeded with, it’s not mentioned in the Chronicle.

What is mentioned in the Chronicle is that the way to open the Gateway is to reverse the same process in which the Five used to open it in the first place. Think of it as two locks. The first one sets the Gateway in an active stage and unlocks it, makes it possible to use.  Then someone enter, which unlocks the second lock, which coincidently also locks the first lock. So to unlock the first lock, one must lock the second. Which is a task given to them by the five.

They know the second lock has five parts in it. One of them being the blood of the five – their current heir and the firstborn of the previous heir. The second to fifth parts are unknown.

So to figure it out, one must retrace the Five’s footstep and understand how it all works.

So this is The Quest. And you have approximately one to five years. But most likely, if you are to take the place of the Five, you also must become stronger and more like them. And in the end, how would you want to present yourself for King Demian and Parliament?
