The problem with Wicken
As you might remember we had a “bonus-session” on Thursday with the Triquerta. It went well, but when we tried to continue into the night I lost my focus and we fell into a rut. I’ve been thinking it over and I’ve seen a lot of things which I need to modify a little to make it work.
To begin with, you’ve never been able to see or find Zeth. Zeth seems to be a hard person to reach and he also seems to be a little bit “off”. He’s a good researcher but he’s very absent-minded and thoughtful.
Then we have “gathering” that happened in the end of the second session. It didn’t take place at the rooftop of Silo 3, it took place in the shared garden of all the apprentices plus Linhi and Kailar wasn’t there1.
The bond never changed, it had to bee temporarily severed by Youlan.
And lastly we have the “time” which has passed. I said both to the Triquerta and the defenders 3 months, I will now correct this time to about 40 days (roughly one month).
We will jump a little today as it is the last session before conjoining again. The Triquerta is ready to use magic and have finally opened up with Eeho and is ready for real magical training to begin but Wicken was making a fuss. For the Group to both be able to proceed and work they need for Taethilis to find Wicken and have him give him his coin and affix it to his focus point. The problem though to find him was great but after asking as many as they could the Triquerta finally found out some strange things.
One, usually a group didn’t need to wait for the mentalist to affix his coin or be able to use his magic. It’s somehow a restriction put down on the Triquerta.
Two, after some digging they found out that the Triquerta had a lot of restrictions no other group had, Tim was the one to tell this to them. Instructions had been passed around to other apprenticies and students about them.
Three, the Triquerta had less than half as many lessons as everyone else which made them proceed very slowly in all areas except Laws of Magicka.
This finally made Taethilis to look into the matter and ultimately go to Gillard and ask for assistance. He knew of some of these things but what Wicken did was not part of his instructions. The Triquerta were to be hold together in development so they could develop simultaneously for the part of the project, but what Wicken did was to stall the entire Project. Also, it seemed that the bond, which were to have been dissolved within a week had been maintained by Wicken. This made Gillard furious and created a great dispute between the two mages.
Gillard though somehow managed to get Wicken to dissolve the bond and give Taethilis his coin. But somehow things are tense and Wicken seems to be very annoyed. Gillard also has changed some of the instructions given to the other apprentices but with a warning to Taethilis to adapt, because he is the link which the Triquerta will depend upon. Especially now. And if any problem arises the Prefect should be able to help them, otherwise they need to manage themselves around the other apprentices, only if they have problem with a mage is Gillard able to help.
That is how you solved the problem. I first thought to make it a mini-quest-adventure but I changed my mind. It’s too early for this kind of thing in the campaign. Today the Triquerta will be introduced to their magic schools and they will be able to expand their lessons. More about this tonight.
