A little about Arcadia
I’ve decided that in order to help the Triquerta move along a little bit faster I will complement a lot of the information and what is needed through posts here and I will also do a small ’jump’ to get by the obstacles so we can get moving faster.
The problem for the Triquerta group right now is mostly on my side. I have had problems properly describe and properly play out a lot of the social parts. I have managed to describe the details correctly and I’m on the right track but still a bit rusty. Especially when it comes to the non-player character parts. This I’ve managed to cover a lot easier with the Defenders, mostly because I use a lot of more colourful characters.
Anyhow, let’s explain some thing all your characters KNOW by now1.
Arcadia is a gigantic structure which in itself is a city. The Core is the city which surrounds Arcadia. Arcadia though stands for about 75% of the area and almost 60% of the habitants of The Core. Arcadia was in the beginning just what now is called Heart Arcadia. The Central Spire which is in Magicka’s absolute centre and also in the absolute centre of the whole world.
It’s also an enormously complex magical symbol if seen from a magical perspective. This makes Magicka one of the world’s most magical places ever and grants Arcadia enormously much magic and control. Magicans replenish their energy about twenty to fifty times faster in Arcadia than usual if they somehow haven’t been excluded from the influence of the ground.2.
Many people think Arcadia is a logical structure, but it isn’t. There are several doors that lead to the same room, even if they are miles away. And this is not by the use of portals. Some of these doors just do this without the mages having any possibility to control it, and others are meant to do so. A lot of magical phenomena are usual in Arcadia due to the vast collection of energy and magical stars.
Due to the mystical and illogical nature of some of Arcadia it’s almost impossible to navigate and know the whole complex; it’s simply just too big and too complex to know. Not to mention that it still changes and areas are stopped from being used or the use changes. Mages might be conservative but the need for knowledge and exploration is too great for them still. Also Magicka is a super young nation.
To navigate Arcadia one have several ways to do so. The first is, know the magical flow and structure which dominates the area you’re in. Everything is built as complex magical signs and symbols. The Apprentice Silos are built in a triangle with the silos as the corners and between these three silos are the Common Youth Gardens for the apprentices of the Lower Grades. In other words every apprentice living in the Apprentice Silos.
An other way to navigate Arcadia is through the Guide Oracles. Evenly spaced and often put as decoration to railings and walls, there are crystalline spheres. Putting your hand on one and either speaking or magically impose your thought to the sphere where you want to go or the question you need answering and the sphere will show the navigational signs or charts or the instructions to your question. The spheres though only use symbols and complex signs that one can find on the archways on doors and other similar places.
Then there are other means of transportation. You have walking, which takes a lot of time and can be quite strenuous at times, you have disks, teleportation and you have flying. Since flying requires the means to fly by yourself it’s not really possible for everyone to use this. Teleportation is a exclusive means and requires a lot of authorisation and cannot be used too haphazardly.
This leaves the disks as the most common and effective means of transportation. There are five different disks one can use for transportation. First are the circles, platforms which go a predestined route when you step on them. Second are the quadrants. They can be navigated by mages, mostly mentalists but also Animists and in some rare cases elementarists. These are most often used underground and indoors when you need to be able to go sideways, and up and down a lot. They are mostly used in restricted areas. Then there are the pentagons, these are exceptionally rare and can only be used by people with special skills or permissions. Most people do not know what they are used for, where they exist or who that can use them.
The Hexagon’s are used in many places though and are seen in two versions; the Four Six or the Six Six. Hexagon platforms are meant for both mages and not to be able to navigate through buildings with many floors. The four six have for rows and six columns of hexagons as a control panel and it’s only possible to push in two at a time. The Six Six controlpanel is a hexagon with thirty seven hexes and it’s possible to push as much as six hexagons at a time but always at least two. The later is only used in big buildings and is quite hard to learn and use. It’s almost only used by mages. The last disks are the octagons. These can only be used by mages of a certain skill and they are only used in high security and very magical buildings. They can kill people that try to use them without the proper authorization and knowledge. How to use them are secret.
Other than this Arcadia have many sections useful for different purposes. Academicka is one of the most important parts which totally surround Heart Arcadia together with the High Cirlcle’s living quarters. This is the most protected area of Arcadia since all mages in training and a lot of knowledge and information is stored here. Close to Academicka lies Libreria. This is an extensive information centre where library, memories, information gathering, archives and the like is maintained and stored.
Other than this there are a few different places in Arcadia where different things are focused on, like Labratoria – where they research different magic items and objects, or Particka – the particle mages corner of Arcadia. But needless to say, there are a lot of different areas for different things in Arcadia alone.
Some nice info here and yeah I think this was abit easier to do, appreciate it anyways.
