Thoughts and suggestions for the group

I’ve been thinking and simulating things in my mind… about role-playing that is and this is what I’ve thought about;

The group is barely manageable right now. I don’t know how it will be in the end but I know for a fact that in the beginning having two separate groups in one group will complicate things and loosen up the tempo in the beginning. I have a few thoughts about how to change this.

The first and major problem really is the feeling. It’s hard to focus on the “outsiders” or “guests” in the campaign when the Triquerta IS the focus. Jumping back and forth ruins tempo and atmosphere. It becomes hasty and sloppy. This will work later, but when I’m trying to set the stage this will be troublesome. Both from a meta-game perspective as well as a descriptive perspective. Too much to think about and to get out in a flowing description. So my suggestion is quite simple and obvious, split the two groups up.

This is not a permanent thing. Only something I think should be done in the beginning to set the stage – the setting – so we can easily start. This way I can focus on the Triquerta respectively the Defenders (I choose to call them that now). With Andreas in the smaller group this should be quite excellent. This way I can also focus on letting him get back into role-play and learn more about my world again. So my thought is to split up the next session in two parts. If you encounter each other I will play your characters, and you most likely will.

The second problem right now is description of the surroundings and scenery. This is mainly my own fault. I didn’t focus much energy, and in truth felt both distracted and stressed so I skipped in in total. Mostly focusing on getting on to the main point. Completely overriding a lot of important parts in the game master’s role. I hastened the tempo and forwent the important details to give the story a feel and flow. If I only had put a bit more in describing what your character feel and how things seemed it would have been a lot better.

The solution for this isn’t that simple but it should be manageable. First I need to take my time describing things in a good pace. Not speed through anything and also let some minor details touch the description. Even meaningless details. I also need to completely let go of “background” lore that your character doesn’t know. Like the Translation and several other stuff. I should even let minor falecies and other illogical things be left to after the session when you can ask off-questions instead. Some details aren’t meant to be namned during sessions but things your character learns “in between” sessions. Thus minor questions like that should be left out I think. In simple terms, I need to focus more on the story telling. The downside though is the control you have over your characters, but this shouldn’t be too hard to deal with. It’s a campaign, and with campaign less control is a part of the deal.

Well, well, I’m also thinking about having a session like now. Tonight.

But we’ll see if I can reach the right group in time and if everyone is free.

    There is probably truth in what you say, about the tempo and all, so a split will probably do both groups good at the moment.

    Although playing maybe 1 session per week/group might also might somethings lose its feel, but maybe thats just me.

    It worked with ADS, and it’s not certain that we’ll have the exact same speed for long anyway. I might remodel a little depending on how much time I have after I’ve dealt with some shit I need to deal with.
