Triquerta – Taethilis (Daniel)

And then our new player Daniel’s character. I will not add any critique to this character since I’ve been helping him with his character due to the short amount of time he had to create it.

Taethilis

Vision

Concept

A mentalist that focuses mainly on support and is skilled in reading people and situations, his main mode of attack is telekinesis.

Description

Taethilis is small even by elven standards; he has a wiry well trained frame and moves with surprising ease in his long flowing robes which seem to be deceptively unrestrictive. He has very long free-flowing hair in an unnatural and eye-catching turquoise colour. Most of his hair flows down his back and reaches just far enough for Taethilis to have to be careful not to sit on it, and two thick cascades of hair run down the front of his body on either side of the head.  On close inspection the most remarkable features of Taethilis’ face is the blue focus gem nested on his brow. And slightly more subtle, the fact that the left eye seems to be covered by a small dull brass-colour eye-patch, which without apparent support covers the eye so perfectly as to appear grafted directly onto the skin. Underneath is the blue glowing orb of eternal psy-vision, sealed away to spare the elf from the constant strain on his mind. His ‘good eye’ is the common bright green of his heritage, along with his otherwise unremarkable features as elves go. The robes that Taethilis wears sports emblems of association and is mainly deep purple with highlights and details of darker and brighter shades of the same colour. Under the sleeves he wears a pair of mismatched long gloves, both magical with distinct purpose; the left hand is a specialized tool for precise and advanced mentalist magic while using psy-vision and the right hand is a defensive weapon for when normal magic just isn’t an option.

Personality

Taethilis is a polite and friendly individual and is usually calm and collected; he rarely grows angry or agitated. One of the few things that can really get him nervous or upset is when faced with an undesirable fact or situation that he or his immediate group cannot seem to change. Frustration is just one of those things he can’t seem to deal with. Like the mage that he is he studies diligently, but prefers practical learning over theory given a choice between the two. Understanding and interpreting is something that he finds particularly satisfying, at times finding great interest in seemingly trivial and ‘meaningless’ things, such as art or the design of a tool. This means that rarely is he bored, easily able to entertain himself by looking at something from different angles and letting his imagination go off on a tangent.

The elf shares much of the prejudices his people harbour for other races, at least in part. Taethilis appreciates and acknowledges his status given his birthright, but contrary to most elves he has found a deep appreciation of the ‘lower peoples’. Most of the time he finds it refreshing to speak with people that do not possess high social standing, while the formalities expected when talking to many of his peers and superiors can be quite chaffing. Even, in his perception, often a way of systematically wasting time. Taethilis is a practical being and prefers to be to the point and always looks to the solution or the heart of the problem, even if he has the tact to skirt the issue when formality demands.

Background and family

Taethilis has lived all his life with his parents who both are mages that took part in Magicka’s founding. Their relationship is pretty typical of a family of busy parents and a single child; they have a good and affectionate relationship but not too much time together. From an early age Taethilis showed promise as a mage by manifesting his powers while playing. He didn’t need much encouragement to choose his path as a mentalist although there was obvious enthusiasm from both the parents.

The young elf is something of a wild child, and suffers from a short attention span and will easily get distracted by something mildly more fascinating than whatever chore or work he is currently doing. When bored and not able to otherwise escape it Taethilis often resorts to daydreaming. He is also somewhat impulsive and very blunt in an honest and childish fashion, always speaking his mind and right to the point. All these traits added to being quite sensitive leads to semi-frequent tantrums from the boy, in spite these less-than-endearing traits Taethilis means well he just can’t help himself most of the time.
