And then they were three

Today The Eye group was expanded by one. Rasmus joined in with a Tekkan named Linus.

It was a good session today. I got to finally start showing up some of the things I’ve been changing and is going to change. But even better, a completely new idea was given to me by PB. Or not really given but he said something and used something in a certain way that made a possibility of an idea form which hopefully will prove to be a good idea. But as all ideas I have, I seldom share them before I’ve had a chance to think them through so I myself believe in them. If I don’t believe in them and can’t defend my idea then it’s no good.

One thing I showed today is stances. Stances is used outside and inside of combat. You often have two settings for every stance. Active and Passive setting. The reason I explain this is because it’s now been brought up and I need to just put it to light to those not present. If you are interested that is.

Examples of these stances are sneaking. When you sneak, you no longer roll if you ‘sneak around’. The times you roll is when you come over specific things like trying to open a creaking door or walking over floorboards and so on, when there’s an immediate treat of being noticed. In the active sneaking stance you move really slow and carefully and is focused on sneaking. In passive you move a little slower than usual but mostly silently as you do other stuff. Think of it as in active you take one step at a time really careful not to make a sound and you even hold your breath and in passive you just move silently on your toes trying to keep a really low profile in hopes of not drawing attention to yourself.

General rule when it comes to this for all stances are that in passive you get a more passive bonus too and is able to do other stuff as well while in active you will be more focused on what you do and get more limitations but higher bonuses concerning that stance. A passive stance costs less than an active too.

Just to list some skills with one or several stances;
Acrobatics
Athletics
Combat Arts
Dark Combat
Floor Combat
Intuiton
Search
Sneak
Weapon Skills
And many more…

But also note that you need to actively say if you use stances since skills change depending on if you are in a stance or not, and which stance you’re in and so on. Stances take SC continuously with a few exceptions and being without stance takes no SC even though it has its own penalties and benefits. But well it needs more experimenting and appliances.

What also been good today is that I’ve been training my rule-following free-initiative combat. The combat we had today was after the rules as they would have been on a mat. I kept track with my mind and trained thus not only my imagination but also my estimation of distances and movement and so on. The only thing that changed without initiative was the actions. I will proceed to extend the free-initiative battle with actions next time now that I’ve feel that I know how to control a fight in this way. In this way a fight flows better I think and without the mat it also gives less opportunity to over-thinking a situation and to act more naturally in battle.

Well, well, it’s good to have some different aspect of people to try the rules on in this group now. I will get back to you when my idea has been formed in a more precise manner.

Yeah it was nice to get going with a mission and not just doing some stuff at the facility, hehe.

Well, when you speak about stances I started thinking, especially on the passive stances so to speak. Is it possible to use two passive stances at the same time?

ill give an little example: I am moving slower than usual and being careful where I step(aka passive sneak stance?) and then I want to get past an obstacle that requires acrobatics for instance, how would that play out(considering I want to try to get past this obstacle silently)? Would it work that I just simply roll for acrobatics with some sort of modification because im doing it more carefully or is it possible to just remove some SC to make it past the obstacle silently(now talking about a non-living obstacle of course).

    Well well, sounds interesting anyway.
Btw no hint when this idea emerged? in what situation =)?

In passive stance it’s possible to use some techniques from other stances, like in your example. But you cannot and I repeat, you cannot use two stances simultaneously at any time.

If this were to be possible it would be something rare and special that I’ll most likely give NPCs or opponents and with a slim but not likely chance for players to have it too during the correct circumstances.
