How it turned out

So, now the Anime Show is over. The dice has rolled and the result is…

FAIL! I rolled a diff of -3. Though that was one of the predicted outcomes I had in mind. Not the specific number 3 but to loose. It was to test the current members of WANO and how they thought and reasoned. Most of them are quite young and there are a very selective few left from “our” days. Even though the only one on the blog that has actually been to more than one shows other than a fleeting moment or in it’s really early days, is Ankan.

In any case to explain my train of thought and how and what I did. The past few days I’ve been discussing this president thing with the others of the board members in WANO. Gabriella “Bella” Westerlund have gone up against me as president. Or rather I went up against her. She put up her nomination before mine. She is also the one most interested in conventions and the one who has given me the motivation to steer this up.

Well, the reason I still went against her is simple. I think I have more competence and what it takes to lay the heavy groundwork for a steady association. She has mostly just visions and not the skills. She isn’t pushy or a very good leader. She got loads to learn about being a president and the past year she’s done virtually nothing that I know about other than think up ideas and help out, even though she’s very good at that.

So my plans was to do the groundwork, maybe convince her to be vice president so I can teach her and help her to get in contact with the right people and force them to respect her. Because what WANO has failed the most at if they are to grow is to get money and respect from both the authorities as well as the youths in Luleå. People know me in the Town Hall and all the different divisions of the municipality and I also have a good way to draw attention to myself without really seeking it. This is what WANO needs, someone to put them on the map again and to gain more respect thus making it easier to grow.

But I also want her to grow as a person and hopefully fulfill my dreams for WANO. To create a convention and be put on a even bigger map as a national wide convention of the East-Asian pop-culture. I also want people to know that I respect her and believe in her so she can get the respect of our own association first. She is a visionary and has an ambition, which is something even Maja had a lack of. So I took a bet and talked with people about this selection on the Show and even promoted Maja and not myself. I didn’t tell them much about how and why or even anything about the downsides just about that both she and me were contesting and so on.

When we presented ourselves before the vote I talked about my strong sides and why I should be president. Here I included in a indirect manner the downsides of Bella by speaking about the visions for the future and how important it is with skills and contacts necessary for a association to gain ground. But I also complimented Bella on her ambitions and her will to finally change WANO. I also said that she was my reason to why I wanted to do this.

The reason with this as earlier stated was to check how farsighted, and caring the members were. If they understood what is required and what personality traits they deemed the most important. The thing is, no matter what would happen, I would still be in control. I’ve been in control and can almost say that I’ve been behind most of what they’ve done this year. I’ve been pushing them as an outside force in form of a auditor and given them more than direct advice and also been the one to say what to do and how to do it. I’ll do the same but push even more now.

Well, she became president and I instead went for auditor again as planned. Directly after everything I gathered the new board and told them how to proceed and what to do and what they had to expect. I had a meeting with them for about an hour about how they had to proceed and what they had too do and how to divide the tasks and so on. I don’t know if they noticed but I am in active control even though I don’t really decide. They listen to me and they do as I say without question. The only difference it makes for me to be auditor or president, as I had said but in a more subtle term to David/Emil was that as a president I could be WANO’s face outward. But as a auditor I couldn’t say myself to be on mission for WANO and do the talking in that way. Because I’m not supposed to do that and doing that would undermine Bella and not show her the respect of her office.

They will have it harder now most likely. But I will push them forward as far as possible. And give Bella hints of what to do and see if she carries out it. If she does, she might be better than I think when it comes to taking responsibility, but I doubt it. Even so I must give her a chance and see how I can control this board to reach new heights.

Best regards,
Oskar Vikström
