A Normal Day II
Yes, some more help for you this is, yes. More specifically; what can be included in a normal day? Without giving away too much nor too little.
Training – But! Training can be done in various forms and Debians are very physical and seldom slack in training. Training can be done inside for some, outside though is more common. Inside mostly if the weather is bad or if you have special reasons not to train outside. Training can be with weapons, grappling, but mostly keep the physical shape and tune up the physical skills one is proud of. Labour in any physical form is considered a kind of training. Training by doing something of use, is optimal.
Socializing – Debians are mostly NOT loners, quite the opposite, especially in Narun. Narun is a very small fort, with barely fourteen thousand sworn to the Warlord. This includes all men and women above eighteen winters and all outside the walls. Socializing is done in various forms many times a day. This is the only way to get news and the more you know, the easier it is to advance and gain fame and pride. There are gardens, there are different spots and places different ages of people gather sometimes or hang out. People visit each other, and there are several ways to socialize. It’s important for everyone. Loners are seldom liked in Deben, in any fort.
Hunting – Most people know how to hunt in some way. All aren’t good at it, but it’s a pastime activity as much as it is necessary. Kids usually hunt mice and birds with slings or just by throwing rocks. But there are several other vermin kids and youngsters can hunt too, inside as well as outside the fortress. There are several ways to use the prey of the hunt, not always eating it yourself.
Chores – Everyone above three winters have at least one chore. Chores are an important thing in Deben and there IS NOT ONE SINGLE DAY without chores for anyone. Sure, sometimes you can be lucky and get a pass, but only for a good reason, not even festival days are without chores, quite the opposite. And chores are not only inside the home, but all over the Fort. Helping out is another way to prepare for advancement but also gain favour in the fort, which is important. There are always a thousand different things to do, and the fort is never still. The older you are the more obligations you have to do chores and the more chores are available for you. Some chores might give you work for a couple of days.
Activities – The fort is always buzzling with activity, but there are also always activities in the fort, often arranged by someone. Activities can mean everything and anything. Like a gang of old friends or war veterans gathering at a tavern or drinking house or eating house or in a garden, just to do something together. Sometimes it’s just someone who has arranged something and the word spreads and other join in. Like potluck suppers, picnics, hikes, competitions, mass chores or almost whatever. There are always activities like this each day; you only need to be in the right groups or the right age or gender to take part.
Lastly I just want to add that it’s normal to do several things during one day. Just doing one and the same thing day out and in is not a human does voluntarily since that is boring. Change is good and building favour and reputation is also good. And the older you are, the more is expected of you. Doing nothing is for the sick, invalid and the very young. Whiners and slackers are net well liked in Deben.
So keep these things in mind now and play out as well as you can. Get to know the fort, your pals, your family, your surroundings everything. And soon you’ll see things start to happen. I’ve laid out some things here and there, but there are a part of the setting when certain things happen or is observed or experienced. Thus, you will have much of the initiative now, and if I find it too slow I will not fix it, I will end it. This will continue until I’ve had enough or until we reach a certain point.
Best regards,
Herid Fel
