The Prehistoric Ages Part III

Nianze Myths

This is a series of a story-like history for Nianze. It’s meant to be written from the viewpoint of Yurin’s history books. Therefore nothing of this must be true. It’s only the common knowledge on the advanced level. Please read this text as it’s a story and imagine that this is a fact book and remember that your character1 may not know everything I write here, but mostly this is the common view and this is what the skilled or school-trained person in Yurin knows. But know that a very selected few actually go to school in this world to, so most have a little wicked view of the history and therefore you can, as an example, twist this text and remove some elements if you want to play a character who you don’t imagine to have been around scholars or been to a school of any kind.

This is the rewrite with some changes. In the end I’ll put a link to the other rewrites. If you want to compare the two different versions you’ll have to do it on your own though. Also note that I’ve changed some facts because I liked it better this way and to better suit other stuff I’ve come up with for my world.

Comments are most welcome as usual.

The Prehistoric Ages

Chapter Three – The Demonic Age

Origins

How the Demons came to reign over the planet is that during the Bygone Ages the Dragons thought some of the creatures on the planet how to master magic to help the Angles. The Demons wasn’t actually one race to begin with but just a vast collection of sentient beings and creatures that studied together and learned about magic and the dangers of magic. They studied for a thousand years or more with the mighty dragons before they decided to make use of their new knowledge and power they had acquired the last millennia. So they left the Dragons as an alliance and announced themselves as The Demons.

This of course made the Demons so powerful that it became hard for other races that were left on Yurin to compete with the Demons when they started conquer the world to expand their territory and power. Many wars were fought once again, but the Demons were very clever and wise so they managed to win most of them without big losses. It’s also said that the Demons even managed to have some of their enemies to surrender and join them instead of fighting. But how exactly the Demons managed to defeat all the other beings and either eradicate them or push them into hiding is something nobody knows.

Rebuilding

After having conquered most of the world the only other races that ware left on the planet where either allies or prisoners. The Demons were now free to undisturbed build up a mighty empire of their own; rebuild the world in their image. It’s believed that the Demons destroyed almost everything that was old to build up new things. They destroyed cities, monuments and everything that they could find from the Bygone Ages. But it’s believed that they were very fond of records so even though they destroyed everything from the Bygone Ages they actually saved some things in their great halls and records. But one thing is for sure, the Demons had successfully managed to almost completely wipe out any other civilization or race before their own, and only the memories of the records and the dragons were left to prove that anything had actually existed before their time.

As days became years, and years became decades the Demons slowly had rebuilt the whole world to their own liking. They had developed their own architecture and a system of controlling the world. And after all these years they had become even more proficient in magic they had even developed new ways to use magic. With all the magic in their society it was only natural for their society to develop into a magiarchy, where the strongest within magic controlled the weaker in different layers and with a King to coordinate and control everything, the legendary Demon King.

It is believed that the Demon King needed to be a lot stronger than all other Demons and a lot smarter too. If he couldn’t control his Demons they would pretty quickly get rid of the king and coronate another King in his place. Nobody knows how many Demon Kings they had or for how long they ruled but it’s believed that the Demons actually had a society where almost everything was considered perfect. It was a magical utopia where everyone had their places and knew what to do a world where everyone was happy and content with their lives.

Even though there isn’t much that is actually known about The Demonic Age that their society worked well for thousands of years is something that is well known. The Demonic Age is the longest and most coherent period of the prehistoric ages and it seems like it were lasting for over five thousand years, though nobody have any idea for how long it really lasted. Most of the successes of the Demons were due to their magical proficiency and that they, unlike the others, had been very careful with their experiments. One other thing that made them stronger and better than any previous race was that they actually were united together and had a system that worked brilliantly. But with power comes arrogance, and with the arrogance comes the fall.

The Fall

This era of the Demonic Age is the one we know most about, it was here the humans were created. The Demons were great scientists and after thousands and thousands of years they had made great discoveries and had became almost as powerful as the Angels. The Angels couldn’t control them without risking a war, but luckily they followed the Angels directions without any disputes. The Gods still were around the world maintaining and observing but most of the life on the planet was left for the Demons and Angels to take care of. If they had any problems they consulted with the Gods, but otherwise it was a really calm era. When the Demons had become so powerful they started to create more and more to stimulate their lives and tried to expand their powers even further. They started to modify themselves and create even more new things in a higher and higher pace, a too high pace.

But as with all the new things, they started to neglect other things and created instead creatures, machines and only the Gods knows what, to do chores and tasks they didn’t want to waste their energy on. But they found that these creatures weren’t enough. They lacked will and they lacked the ability to learn new things. They could adjust to one extent but they couldn’t do everything and they didn’t even realize the consequences of their actions. So they broke one of the rules the Angels had got from the Gods to maintain, they created life.

Until now the Demons hadn’t been allowed to create life and they lacked reproductive abilities, instead they had a way of spawning when they died. Some creatures were allowed to reproduce but the most sentient beings still lacked that ability on the order of Vordén. But the Demons now started to break these rules. At first in secret, they tried for hundreds of years to create life forms that were similar to them but had the ability to reproduce, think and to be able to learn and grow; in short they tried to create a Human. Their first experiments were devastating. They were not functional, they had too much limbs or too few. The problems were countless but the Demons didn’t give up. They had discovered many things and along the way they had experienced lots of obstacles but they had managed to figure them all out, so they gave it time.

Then the Demon King managed to come up with a solution, they needed a soul. The Demons couldn’t create a soul, that was impossible with magic, but you could steal souls, but that the Angels had forbidden. To solve this, without the Angels knowledge they started to kidnap weaker Demons that soon would die. They made some modifications and made them into concubines that when they died would spawn their new servant-race with own reproductive abilities. After lots of studying of the reproductive creatures and races they had really grasped the concept of gender. The Demons themselves lacked a real gender; their genders were only for pleasure and bonding. So the first sacrificial Demon spawned a male and a female, chosen from the two most efficient and easiest gender of the Demons.

When these two first came to life it was a huge success which the Demons couldn’t keep secret. All the Demons wanted a human couple and some even wanted to manipulate themselves to be able to spawn Demons whenever they wanted. This of course made the Angels aware of what had happened, The Constitutions had been broken. This hadn’t ever happened before. Not to this extent and the whole Demonic race wanted this ability or at least some humans of their own. The Angels didn’t know what to do, either they would try to stop the whole process, which might lead to a war they couldn’t win, or they could allow it which would be directly against the wishes of the Gods. So they put the Demonic Society in a hiatus and brought the Demon King to talk to the Gods.

They brought the Demon King to counsel the Gods and at that time Sate was the god that answered according to the legend2. He said that the Demons were not allowed to have reproductive abilities, but he allowed them to have humans with this ability if their life-span was shortened to only a century. He also said that they only could have a limited amount of humans available and that nobody should be allowed to create humans after they had created the first generation. So if the humans died out, they wouldn’t be allowed to create more. With this decision the Demon King returned and even though many didn’t like it they agreed to it, but with great reluctance.

At first this seemed to work, but the humans were strange. They were small about a fifth of their life and during that time they were almost useless. They needed food and water, which until now only was for cattle, animals and other creatures. And they broke pretty easily without being able to fix their own damage. And then they aged too, this concept was completely alien for the Demons and when they didn’t last for a whole century all the time they became frustrated when the first generation was dying out leaving a very small second generation left. They learned slowly how to nurse the humans and some Demons became experts on breeding humans. It took some time, but after about four generations they had finally managed to figure out how to treat the humans.

But they had completely underestimated the power of thought. The Demons believed that humans didn’t learn anything important due to their short life-span and that their weak bodies without magic capabilities were no threat at all. Humans were only very precious expensive cattle that they used as servants and some had some fun to make them do other things. Many scientists even tried to put humans in isolated worlds to see how they would work things out. But when they started to teach the humans how to write and read so they could perform these tasks for them, they made a big mistake. When humans could read they learned about The Demonic Society and the later generations had become aware of the way they were treated and they soon begun to try to plot a way to become free from the Demons.

They used deception in form of notes, letters and sabotage that the Demons didn’t think that the humans were capable of, but the humans were clever. They had learned that the Demons thought of them as only cattle and therefore acted as such to communicate with other humans. The best way of communicating with other humans and spread their plans were to become ill or damaged so they could go to the nursing-facilities where the human experts had all humans in the same place. Some humans sacrificed themselves and broke their own limbs to go there and soon almost all the humans were into the plan. There are many versions about how the humans managed to make their plan work. Some believe that they actually managed to make The Demon King crazy and others say that they poisoned lots of Demons and made it look like other Demons had poisoned them. One other story is that the humans forged some evidence that the Demons had started to create new humans and had the Angels find it. The only thing all the stories have in common is that the humans managed to trick the Demons to war with themselves and the Angels. This is the beginning of The Great Demonic Wars that almost shattered the whole world.

The Demonic Wars

At first when the war broke out it were only small skirmishes between the Angels and the Demons when the Angels tried to stop conflicts between Demons. But soon it became a full-scale war between Demons and Angels and Demons and Demons. The Angels soon fled their way when they realized that things had gone out of hand. The Demons had become furious with each other and the Demon King could no longer control them when many believed that the Demon King were trying to get rid of his competitors by sending his most loyal Demons to destroy them.

The Demons had become so angry with each other that they totally neglected the holy laws and started to create humans once again. They modified humans and sent them back and forth to become their tools of war. When the war broke out the humans regretted what they had done; this wasn’t what they had had in mind. But they changed their plan and managed to win over many of the modified half-Demons, humans with Demonic powers, and start their new plan to become free.

The humans and demi-humans tried to have the Demons to destroy each other while they also tried to ask the Angels for help. The Angels answered the call, and started helping the humans to stop the war, or so they thought. The Angels caught the Demons, while the demi-humans either killed or threw most of the Demons into another world called Hell3. But sometime during this war the Demon King realized what had happened when he caught some of the Demi-Humans in the act. He then brought forth his most powerful creation and managed to gather the most powerful Demons under himself and together with his powerful creations he decided to eradicate everything. The other Demons where so angry and mad that they had become paranoid and he couldn’t win them over, so he thought that he just had to defeat all and start all over again to build up the empire.

But this wasn’t as easy as it sounded. The Demon King’s army sure was the strongest one but he had to fight Angels, Demi-Humans and Demons. This was too much even for them. Nobody knows why the Gods didn’t interfere with this, but according to some tales the Gods couldn’t interfere with the war due to a sacred rule Vordén had created from the very beginning. But others say that that the Gods actually were the ones punishing the Demons for modifying themselves, which actually were against The Constitutions’ rules. This made the Demons abominable and therefore forsaken by the Gods. There are many stories about the Demonic wars, at it’s said that it raged for about five hundred years until it finally came to a conclusion.

The End of the Demonic Age

In the end wars, most of the Demons had been thrown to Hell or killed. But the planet was breaking apart. This is when the last of the Demi-Humans and Angels, who had suffered a lot of casualties, approached the last of the Demon King’s army and they gave them a choice. Either they could fight and die anyway in the aftermath of the screaming planet, or they could sacrifice themselves to keep the planet together. Here the history is very vague, but the belief is that some of the King’s army fought but died with the king in one desperate attack while some of his generals were caught and promised to be able to live on if they sacrificed themselves to heal the planet. The Demons that were captured for this purpose is today known as; Dumas, Azillroth, Kathir, Farun and Cedar the five Generals. They are also known today as the five Demonic mountain ranges4.

I really liked what I did to this chapter. So far it’s the best of the changes I’ve made and it made the next somewhat more interesting to read and easier, I think. It somehow made this age easier to understand and made the flow more coherent and vivid in my opinion.

Some new information have been put in this chapter to as some major rewrites too where I shed light on stuff I’ve before have hidden in the text. Also, some more information on Hell is given. Well, using these smaller headers seems useful, not only in the Word-document so I think I’ll use it later too.

So far, I think that out of all the written Myths (including the old versions) this chapter is the most well written and flowing chapter of them all. Hopefully my changes on the other chapters and the final chapter will come close, if not excel the quality I think this chapter has.
