The View of the Sand War
I think that IF you are interested in the History of Nianze which I’m recreating and making more… stable and logical to fit my new view of the world, then you want to know what is happening. And to really understand what is happening you must at least have hum about the Fire Wars and how it ended and how people look upon this.
As you know, and as it was in the first place, Taraien and Deben have been fighting each other during the war which has created hatred between their countries. But not only Deben was involved in the war, though it was, technically Deben who started it even though it was an accident and a lot of misunderstandings involved. However it’s not important for this post.
First off all, the war was against both the Shikár and the Marjuls since nobody knew how to distinguish one from the other since they are both very dark skinned and their clothes are often sand coloured while fighting in the sand. The difference here is that The Shikár was the ones who took most of the damage of the two and after the conclusion of the war, it was the Shikár that was blamed by the Debians even though they greatly dislikes Marjuls because of their behaviour and that they seldom can see any difference from a Shikár or Marjul.
Also note that even though Deben was in war with Taraien, almost all of the rest of the world was in war with someone at that time. Everyone wanted to expand and get a piece of someone. The ONLY ones outside the war were Icea. This was an age of backstabbing and temporary alliances and a lot of mystical phenomenon which had never been sighted ever before. Also note that before the end of the war, there was ONLY one moon. Alzor was the one and only moon, there was no such thing as Hadan, or the Moon of Evil – Hadan, or the Moon of Power – Geron. Actually, since you all already know about that moon, Luna existed in the sky but always when Luna was visible it covered Alzor so it was believed that Alzor and Luna was one and the same and by everybody else that is still true, except for very wise people who know otherwise. But all of the other moons didn’t exist until after the creator’s death.
Deben was also in one other war and one other alliance. They were allied with Sancho and at war with Katia, They conquered a third of Katia but then they withdrew instead since they were loosing in Taraien and Katia became their allies instead since Deben had always protected them in the past and were still protecting them somewhat from Sancho. However, the full invasion of Taraien was the culmination of everything that was happening in the great south.
Deben was close to eradicate one clan and take over one of the pillars in one of their three great attacks. In one other attack they hade besieged Kaaba and in their third they were trying to crush the Shikár from the south thus dividing their power so they could easier crush them. One thing that went very wrong with their plan here was that the Shikár was divided into clans and that the Marjul’s wasn’t a part of their society. Even so they almost succeeded with their plan thanks to their weapons and armours. And they were really making it hard for the Taraians.
It was around this time that the knowledge of what was happening had finally reached someone more powerful that actually knew what would happen if the Shikár lost. Precisely what happened will be brought up in the last chapter of the Myths. The result however was that a temporary alliance with some powerful heroes was sent down from the north to Taraien to stop that war at all costs. In this alliance there was both priests from Aguin as well as Archmages of the newly formed State of Magic1, archenemies but with a necessary alliance for the cause of this task.
They arrived a little bit too late to prevent it all, when the most powerful magical attack the world ever had seen was launched before it was possible to stop the war. It was a great suicide attack by the Shikár to save The Pillar and with devastating results. The Alliance though managed to save Kaaba from falling and forcing the Debians and Shikár to stop fighting before any more damage was done. But only thanks to a Debian Warlord and a Satanistic Priest the two parties finally withdrew from the battlefield, both admitting defeat.2.
Later the Last King of Deben, Waldemar3, and both of the Caliphs of the Marjuls as well as all of the clan chiefs and Mars herself were gathered in Kaaba to sign a nonaggression treaty with a Diplomat of Meno as the one negotiating the treaty. This treaty was signed two years after the unofficial end of the Taraian War and one year after the Creator’s death and barely five months after The Great Havoc. The treaty says that Debians are NEVER to set their foot on Taraian soil again, with exceptions for the Harbours and it totally forbids both Marjuls and Shikárs to ever go to Deben for any reason at all. It was also now the country was officially open to trade with Marjuls and also allowed Meno and their allies to freely travel to Taraien, even though the rest would have to be negotiated by the merchants and the travellers with the Sheiks, Sultans and Caliphs of the territory they would be visiting.
The Marjuls view of the war was almost as if it didn’t happen. They didn’t loose much in the war, mainly since they were defended by the Shikár, and they mostly won in the end since they would be able to trade and expand their wealth when the Outlanders would arrive. Even so there are a lot of people amongst the Marjuls that actually lost a lot of their family members to starvation and in the siege and some were killed on the Savannah by the Debians so there is despise and hate towards Outlanders and they also generally see Outlanders as foolish, and they blame the Debians for the war. The war made the poor in Kaaba poorer and the rich, richer so you do the math on that one when it comes to the feelings towards Outlanders.
The Shikár on the other hand is a completely different matter. Before the Debians arrived on Taraien they knew that there were other people on the other side of the sea, but that they didn’t concern them. They were protecting the Firewall and living by the Way of Fire as they were taught and protected the people on the other side of the Sea. In their eyes, the Debians invaded Taraien and insulted all of the Shikár and tried to destroy the world. They were evil walking, trying to destroy everything that the Shikár and the Marjuls lived for. Ungrateful, arrogant, ignorant bastards! Invading and attacking their protectors, the ones who where the sole reason to why they still existed! And when they defended their homeland and their cause they started to take pride in killing them and instead of retreating they increased their attacks and focused it on destruction without honour!
Well, everything the Debians did just made it worse. The Shikár didn’t attack them all-out to begin with but mostly to drive them back and to mark that they shouldn’t come closer to The Firewall and the Pillars. But the Debian focused more and more to attacking and hunting the Shikár when they saw them as a general treat and also felt like they were being defeated. They, the mighty Warriors of Steel that had defeated The Emperor, the only ones that have defeated him.
Even so, all their fighting made both sides respect each other in a strange hate-love kind of way. The Shikár found the Debians way of fighting intriguing and challenging, both their strange armours, their double edged swords. New techniques and new ways of fighting were invented just because of them and also a natural hatred for Outlander weapons and ways of fighting appeared. But in the end, both sides lost and the Shikár yielded to their hate towards the ignorant steelmen who attacked them. If their protection could exclude one race/nation they would exclude Deben. Or attack it to save the planet from these ignorant warriors.
And that’s pretty much it. I think I covered the most important parts now. I left a lot out, but this is mostly about just the Sand War and not the whole Fire Wars and the start of the Apocalyptic Ages, that will be covered in the Myths later.
Best regards,
