Evening Ramble XXXV
I just got the urge to write a short post, after eating my second dinner and watching anime. I must say that I feel quite stimulated since I got home. Hopefully it will continue for quite a while and if I get a good start in both TI1 and AFC this week I think this will last for quite some time.
Ankan asked how I could expect you to request a session even though I didn’t express it clearly that we actually had one session left before the “real” session. And the answer is quite simple that I didn’t expect you to do it really. I hinted towards it and then since I have reached the conclusion that finishing what’s left of the Stage-preparations before the “real” session would be more efficient and better I hoped or at least wanted to see if you thought the same. I even believed that some of you would want a session earlier than Saturday just because of this long break and I merely stated my surprise that you hadn’t. But the sentence was also directed at Forsberg the Inactive2 whom himself complained that he thought he were loosing his concept (even before starting his single sessions) a couple of days before I went away. Not that it matters, and it doesn’t really, since if I would have liked it that way I would have done it myself. As long as my own plans work I don’t really care.
All these meetings with SVEROK has somewhat increased my interest of board games quite a lot I must say. Since on all the meetings there is always about fifty different games piled up and the evening often end up with at least three of five different games played all over the area until people get tired and all just hang around the beds or the sleeping area until it’s really too much and everyone goes to bed or just sleep where they were when the rest gave up. I think I’ve tried over a dozen different board games since the big meeting in Linköping last year and quite many of them are not only fun but also… inspiring to play.
We really must get Once Upon A Time, it’s a good game to play especially when training your improvisation while storytelling under press. It’s a game that not only is really fun and tends to get really naughty but also helps people use their imagination and improve their storytelling capabilities. I know that I had Ankan try it once, when we were having our “Good Bye Finkan LAN” but at that time we did not play completely by the rules and people were a little bit too strict then I think. But well…
I think that we/I should play more RPG campaigns. I should try to do short campaigns designed for about six sessions but long sessions, like whole-day sessions and only played once a week. Or maybe even just four sessions’ long campaigns. The idea has appealed to me since around when I was creating the “Apocalypse” campaign and it only got more fuel when we played A Dark Life which was a tremendous success as a campaign even though it was a lot more flexible than a campaign of this sort would be.
The reason for this would be a lot of things. One would be that I have story lines which I want to be played out by players to determine the outcome. And another would be for players to vary their characters now and then and also need to get into another character other than their own to get inspiration and also to train your role-playing skills from another perspective.
I think that for me to progress properly in history this time around, I would have to have events a little bit more clearly in front of me. Plus, I need more heroes and famous people for my history books3. One other thing that is good with campaigns like this is that you’ll be able to create more heroes of your own and also see more of Nianze and it’s history thus learning more of the hidden secrets.
I think that I might create a campaign to be played between arc two and three (hopefully there’ll be a third!) and my ideas at the moment is either a semi-epic story in Deben or a lesser campaign with some pirates in The Cauldron and around Exile. But I have a lot of ideas, and there are a lot of old heroes who need new tales and a lot of new heroes who needs to be created, and a lot of mysteries and phenomena that needs to be experienced. Well, well…
Two posts on one day, this is rare!
Best regards,
Herid Fel
I don’t think we played Once Upon a Time at that LAN, but we did it a long time ago during a TA convention at LTU. As far as I can remember I’ve only played it once upon a time.
Njet. It was during that LAN which took place at the same time as a TA convention. We only walked to LTU to play Once Upon a Time and to eat Pizza. I have pictures from that weekened and I also remember it quite vividly.
Well, well…
