Demonic Lineage – Part II
So, I’ve been working on the DL all day to give it some more form since I think it’s needed for PB to be able to play. Only description hasn’t been good enough it seems, because he has misused it in a really dangerous way. With a character sheet he will probably have it easier to understand things. In other words my big experiments are over since I had to finalize a lot of stuff today. Of course there is a lot left that is open to change but the base principle is finished.
As you can see if you download the sheet above there is some changes which isn’t clear how or they really work but I’ll try to explain those things I’m satisfied with but always know that a lot of this might change if I realize that it won’t work as intended.
I will first just explain the sheet and what is different with each field.
The first “Persona” field is precisely as before. It’s just a short summary with the facts that will still be the same even when you change. But they don’t need to be the same, note that. You might have an alias or even want to play a character who isn’t aware of his or hers demonic side and lives two lives with two different names and maybe even believes and looks different. The fact tough, will always be the fact.
The Demonic Benefits and Deficiencies are in short passive or non-progressive abilities you gain from your forms or from absorbing different things in your demonic form. You might develop abilities or deficiencies without doing anything too, as a side effect to your use of your powers. You gain one new Benefit/Deficiency each time you evolve too. The first being your demonic attraction and the second being your demonic sense, prime instincts for a demonic being.
The Affected Skills are just skills which changes, decreases or in some rare cases rises, when you are in your demon form. This also affects your speciality skills since your no-limit on those skills will apply when in your demonic form.
Which reminds me, some specialities have problems with the DL-ability and will not work at all while others will work a little but not fully and some will not be affected at all. It all depends on what kind of speciality you have and how you have attained it. Like Tyniker, in PB’s case, won’t work at all since it’s a blood-type of skill and will be completely disabled by the demonic blood in Violet’s veins. The speciality Healer will not be able to use any Ki-based specialities such as white healing and black healing but his cutting techniques will still be possible to use and so on.
The properties in the DL will be vaguely based on your original (your base value+3) properties and then have some demonic additions and penalties as if demons were a race. I’m not sure how they will look like in the future, but I improvised something that felt good for Violet. Not that the Race-modifications had anything to do with her, I just based on demons in general.
However, the properties are completely different and the most important thing to know is that their potency is different, mostly stronger but sometimes weaker than your regular potency. In Violet’s case she has 16 in WIT with a potency of 7 but 9 in her demonic form but with a potency of 10, the highest possible potency. She is then almost as good in her demonic form as in her human form1.
Well, it’s much easier to raise a property in the demonic form. You almost raise your properties as soon as you roll a perfect or critical roll, depending on the current level of the property. But beware, the stronger the demon gets, the harder the fight between the human and demon form will become. So think on the future, but also think on your effectiveness.
Your battle-data is different too. Usually you take the skills involved and divide them but in the DL you add them together instead. Thus you get 4-10 in movement and actions just from your properties. Remember tough, the maximum of actions and movement is still 162. Well, you also get some movement and actions from your forms when you reach the second stage. I’m not sure exactly how much but I have put down a value on Violet’s sheet and will try that out. It looks right so far but I will see if it’s too much or too little for a demon spawn.
Something completely new on the battle-data is Battle Regeneration. Demons regenerate in battle (this can be good to know when you are fighting your everyday demon too) which is one of the things that makes them even harder to defeat. The regeneration value depends on your CON-level and will happen once every phase. Even if you aren’t wounded this actually happens so this is also the reason to why, in demon form, you constantly change and drain power on your human body.
As you might notice they don’t have a Aruhun Recovery. This is simple, demons don’t have Aruhun Capacity. They usually have a too tight relation to The Multiverse to be able to have any AC. Therefore they don’t have any recovery. Now the recovery is pretty useless before stage three, because when you lose consciousness you will return to your human form. But it still adds some to your resistance. The recovery of the magic is calculated the same, but the regeneration is actually twice your level in CON and the physical is twice the regular too.
The sanity is like the properties divided from the human form, but I took Violet’s Sanity and added +1 to all instead since she completely neglected the first stage. You are completely immune to the sanity connected to your current form tough. So if you are in violent form then you won’t be grossed out by anything less then your own guts spilling out of your mouth while you’re being mangled by a big steamroller. And then you won’t need sanity anymore anyway.
Demonic Abilities is next. Well, I don’t really think I need to explain this but I’ll do it anyway. You get abilities in your demonic form and you write down the progressive-abilities here. You will get one from each form and the general ability you will always be able to use. When you loose all forms except for the general and your main form you will also loose the abilities but gain new ones from the enhanced form. You might also be able to gain abilities from absorbing things. All abilities work almost the same as normal abilities with the exception that they will raise at 10, 20, 30 and 40.
Next to the Demonic Abilities are the Demonic Forms. There is space for four form, which you will have in the second stage only. After that you will only have two forms and the others won’t matter. I’m not sure yet how much EP it will require to raise a level in the forms which will affect their abilities and bonuses, so that I’ll leave up to testing instead. The only good thing to know is that each time you transform to one form you will gain one point in that form. You won’t get any points from using their abilities or just being in the form that will only raise your progression, pain and drain.
Speaking of which, I think you understand these already but I might as well explain them anyway. The Soul Pain and the Will Drain is how much DL is affecting your human form. This is what you need focus and meditate for, to keep this as good as possible or you will not stand a chance against the demon inside of you. Soul Pain is modifications on spirit and Will on willpower. You will only have as many points in this as you have in your human SPI and WIL, so the higher you have the easier and longer it takes for you to get down on really bad levels.
The Will Drain can also symbolise how addicted you are of the DL. The lower you have the more you need it to feel good, to have a stronger and better psyche to face the world. Your confidence, your self esteem. The LvL are the MOD you get when you try to do things outside your DL which it might affect and also when you try to resist the urge to transform.
The Soul Pain is how much pain your soul is in, since it’s starting to rip apart when you use the DL. After all, DL uses the soul to create a new being. This affects your AC outside of DL too, so all the marks in Soul Pain is also a loss on your human AC. So this can be really dangerous for your human form. SPI makes you shakier and makes you mentally weak outside the DL or so it seems. It applies on many things concerning the DL but it’s also the only thing that will keep you from giving in to the demonic urges. You could say that your soul is your greatest weapon against your inner demon in the third stage.
The Demonic Progression is a field which you fill out differently than the rest. You take all the 1 than 2 and so on until you reach the double border. Here, your demon has finally started to emerge from the depths and the third stage might happen at any time depending on rolls. You might affect this with Focus and meditation too, but only slightly and almost directly after you’ve gained one or two points here. You always gain one point here when you transform and those points are not possible to suppress. But the longer you stay in a form and the more you loose against your demonic side the more points are added. All other points you gain other than the transformation points are possible to suppress if you try to do it not too long after you’ve gotten them. This field is only used in the second and third stages. Before that it’s not active.
When you’ve come to the column of 21 you have or will soon transform to your third stage. You then will have a couple of more transformations between your regular demon and your main form to fill this field, when this is done, the hopefully endless struggle will begin. Until then your demon will be too weak to do anything other than affect you to feed him/her.
Your CC is different in DL. It’s calculated the usual way and you should note it down in your regular sheet too so you can keep track on your body parts from there. But since you regenerate you only need to keep track on how much damage you’ve taken and where. Note that all your damage will be transferred to your human form when you return. So at least regenerate so you won’t die or faint when returning to normal.
MC and SC are the only energies you’re able to use in the DL and those are precisely the same as your human form and will only slightly be affected by your DL but mostly in indirect ways and not by extending it.
Your physical stress, magical resistance and mental resistance as well as your damage bonuses are different from the human form. You have two DB for each of the three forms. In your violent form you will have double FOR DB and regular of the others, horror will have double PCN and paranormal will have double COG. The PHS are calculated with CON+PHY+10, MAR MCH+WIL+10, MER SPI+FOR+10. When it comes to the MER you don’t have any additions from Aruhun Recovery but in the Horror form you have twice the normal amount of MER.
That should explain most of it, and as I said, it is still subject to change.
You have been warned…
