After the first…
… duo session I’m getting my faith back that we might soon be back on track again. Maybe this is what at least I needed to get confidence that this might work after all…
Even though it wasn’t much the duo session sure clarified some things. It gave me some opportunity to build up the environment a little and give a better aspect of the cultural environment too. I’m sure that it will help the group evolve towards everybody’s different goals.
But then I might be shouting before crossing the river too. Better to hope that one duo session can set things straight and then see how it goes.
Something that I think we need to put the most effort in is to socially interact with your characters and to describe even when you aren’t doing anything and once again, imagination. To do things out of the blue and/or describe when you do the same thing.
Say for example that you are waiting for someone to return with an answer. You then sit down on a spot and wait. You are the type of person who wouldn’t run around while waiting so what would you do then? Just say, I wait, I wait, I wait some more… stop asking me what I do. SILENCE! I KILL YOU!
Example;
Halor sits down in the sand and takes a deep breath and looks curiously around.
Some time passes I might describe something, or maybe somebody else acts but essentially nothing has changed. I then again ask what you do.
I stand up briefly, massaging my shoulders and stretching my legs. I then see that a bug have crawled up in my belt and I catch it and throw it away, while being careful not to be stung. Who knows what bugs can do down here?
The important thing is to do something new all the time or describe another aspect of the same thing. If you don’t want to move or anything you can explain something completely different. I think it’s just important to act and maybe just give some thoughts from your character perspective.
But then again… I might have too high demands on you…
But also know that I have this because I want this to be stimulating for me, if I don’t find it stimulating or even entertaining or feel like people aren’t enjoying the session. I will probably lose interest in making any effort to play a real group and just make a stale, static world in which stuff does not matter…
But that’s just me, what about you?
Best regards,
Herid Fel
I am simply not used to the ammount of creative freedom you are leaving us, I will keep trying and we will see how it goes.
Sure, I can understand that.
Even so, It feels like the posts about RPG the last month or so have been very redundant…
Like I’m saying the same thing over, and over again. But even so when the sessions come I get the feeling that you’ve forgotten it all or just silently disagrees with me because I seldom feel like you’re trying mostly just reacting rather than acting, if you know what i mean.
But then again, as I’ve said, it might as well be me in this case so well whatever. Just wish I would get some feedback on stuff and more trial and error than I’ve seen so far…
I think it will get better , the thing ive been feeling is that its abit stale and we havent been playing that much because things seems to come up all the time especially on weekends and I think if we want to get going with this group we should play more intense in the beginning atleast to build up a good flow and feeling for the characters.
I missed having the single session aswell , since it gives you time alone and time for trial and error , its much easier than it is to do it while playing with the others since then it will slow down the flow of the session.
And about acting and reacting , well its true , maybe we should try to do more acting , but atleast when I look at my own performance so far I think ive done some , but it can be alot better yes.
Also I dont think the demands are too high but I think the expectations might have been to high so early.
I see what you are getting at in the last couple of posts and will try to improve. Though one thing, I don’t know why and if it is just me. But your straight out “Initiative” and expecting us to act, just takes the flow out of everything. Better to do it naturally…
I must admit though that the last week or so my mind have not been very set on RPG or things that have anything to do with it. A lot of stuff to do over here and the rest of the time I’ve felt like doing nothing fancy. But things will hopefully change soon enough.
See you Thursday then.
I disagree.
I feel that “Initiative” is a good way to just empty the moment to the players. It’s a good marker for; your turn, do what you want, you have the power. It’s almost to mark that the one taking control will be game master and rewarded for his efforts.
That it takes the flow is mostly because you don’t do anything. But I still think it’s good and marks the fact that nothing will happen unless you do something. I could just drop everything and let it be, but that would probably lead to silence for hours so it’s not possible.
I’m still not there, but hopefully I will be. I think that once things starts rolling we will influence each other and things will flow nicely.
Yeah I hope so!
