A Dark Life – 1×05 – Back to School
Sinder walked back to his office after making sure the coffins were shut. The prodigies needed to adjust to the darkness even though they were afraid for it. The fear would otherwise grow until something uncontrolled and they would never be able to get rid of it, which would be a big disadvantage later on. Not that he cared; these prodigies belonged to The Ancients which after his reports had asked him to prepare them for meeting them.
He couldn’t be anything more than envious. He had never met any of The Ancients and he was far older than the average vampire. But yet these worthless nobodies would meet them before he did. They didn’t realize how lucky they were. Though he had made sure that they felt the pressure of being special in The Pen, nobody liked it. He had ordered the Shepherds’ to spread rumours and false information about how great they were treated and after their little trip to the pen they had made a lot of enemies. Most likely all the siblingships blamed them for the arrest that time, which had lasted about half as long as usual.
He nodded for himself, they wouldn’t have it easy in The Pen, and some of the vampires there had a long memory and would most likely be their enemies in The Web later on too. As he approached his office door he suddenly stopped. Someone was in his office. And unannounced, he felt a chill of fear in his gut. They wouldn’t have made their presence notable to him if they didn’t want him to know, know that his doom was imminent. He sighed and opened the door.
There, sitting in the chair for visitors sat a young man and behind him stood Martin whose presence Sinder had totally missed. Spiders were really powerful. Sinder bowed immediately, and stayed in his position and waited, waited for Martin to make his first move. He masked his feelings.
“You can stand,” Martin said calmly and continued, “This is Vilk or Victor as his Human name is. He is here on this order” he said just as calmly and reached a sealed parchment towards Sinder. Sinder took the parchment just as calmly and smiled friendly to Martin. He wasn’t here to capture him. Maybe his scheme still was hidden in the shadows. He broke the seal of The Webmaster and The One and read the order. As he read his doubts rose again, he immediately hid his fear.
“I see, that will be arranged as ordered,” he answered and bowed slightly but still with his a smile on his face. He tried his best not to look at the boy. He couldn’t be more than barely ten, maybe fifteen as most if he didn’t fake it. No this Vilk was a dangerous boy to be brought here by a Spider.
“How far gone is he?” he asked carefully as he started to make way to his desk and at the same time consider him thoroughly. He could be as most fifty if he masked his age, but he needed to be somewhere above the age of twelve, if he wasn’t a special case as the prodigies. Then he would most likely be around seven or eight. He has too much wisdom in his eyes to be younger than five, depending on his abilities. No, this boy wasn’t a direct threat; he could kill him any time or have anyone kill him without any problems.
“He’s been in The Web for three years and he have residences in both Katia as well as Deben. He has eight abilities and he is has potential to be a Gift Giver. His master is Odren of The Elders.” All this information made sense to Sinder, one of the Elders wanted a favour from him and wanted to get it free of charge. Well, Sinder was used of this, he know Odren and could use this information back at him so he relaxed.
“So the boy needs to be with the Prodigies you brought me then?” he asked and Martin nodded. “Good, then I will take care of that. It was about time they got a new elder in their Shiblingship,” he said as he laughed softly and stood up to shake hands with Martin. Martin smiled back at him and then vanished. Sinder stood a while and looked out in the air before he turned his eye to his new pupil and smiled a smile which made the boy shiver.
To Be Continued…
This was just a little something to get your spirits going for the next Phase – Learning.
I will now create Vilk, your fellow vampire friend =).
Just one more person left to interrogate then, even though he will have quite little time to finish up with if we don’t move the Meeting as well as the Rule Forum to Sunday.
*Sigh* The fact that Sinder is going out of his way to make us enemies is kind of depressing.
I wasn’t expecting to be the eldest for a very long time anyway. But if I’m reading this right then this guy is our senior by quite a bit. I just hope he doesn’t turn out to be a bully.
Being in the web means outside the pen right? So wouldn’t that make him an adult?
He doesn’t make you his enemies, you wouldn’t stand a chance against him anyway. Not without some cunning tatics. He is just expressing his envy towards you. And he’s following orders, making your life harder than the avarage vampire so you will be forced to grow faster than the rest… just as your masters wishes.
That assumption is correct.
You’re misinterpreting what I wrote, I’m saying that he’s going out of his way to make enemies for us. Which ammounts to “making our lives difficult”.
We’ll see in the end, but as you said I doubt we could ever be on even footing with Sinder. Seeing as he has a couple of hundred years headstart on us 😛
It will be interesting to see what this Vilk character is like at any rate.
Yeah I guess I misinterpeted what you wrote, but you actually wrote in the way to suggest that he made enemies of you not for you. But well, well…
Like I said, you need a cunning plan to take him down and a great amount of luck. But Luck isn’t something that will get you to victory…
Well, hopefully you won’t be fighting him in this campaign and since most of you seems to wanto forfeit your characters afterwards you probably won’t se anymore of Sinder.
Vilk is a vampire, so much is for sure… as for the rest of him… Who knows…
What I wrote isn’t as clear as it could be, but if I meant to say that he was looking to be our enemy I would have been very clear about it.
As I said, we can hardly hope to be on even footing with Sinder. The fact that we need a good plan AND luck further proves my point.
As for forfeiting the characters; as I have said all along I would most likely prefer to make a new character once the campaign is finished. But then things change, and I’m not certain….
And as Vilik turned out…. The circumstances made his personality less of an issue 😛
