A Dark Life – 1×03 – This Is Your Life
Itik gazed at the horizon to determine how much time he had to report before the sun arose; he wanted to get some sleep tonight and wanted to travel as little as possible during the day. He looked at the grave. They were progressing at last, and it seemed like something strange had happened today. One of them had snapped up an ability without a giver present and another one had been blurring. This was good news! This meant he could still be saved!
Itik smiled to himself and started walking towards the Mansion. Sinder would be very pleased with his news and as soon as their teeth grew out everything would be finished. He would have been released from his debt and everything would go back to normal. He could run as far as possible from The Web as possible and forever just buy and sell things he found. He didn’t want to be a part of this society. Too many rules and regulations to keep track of, but soon he would be free, Sinder had promised him!
He opened the door to the mansion and bounced with light step up the stairs thinking of all the things he would do as soon as he were finished. For the first time in a long while he were feeling really happy, not sadistic happy, but happy happy. He walked down the corridor towards Sinders office and in his joy he forgot to knock, announce, pay respect and wait in place…

The door swung open and Sinder spun around immediately ready to Obliviate the intruder but managed in the last minute to stop himself. He heard a small puff as his visitor dispersed himself. In the door stood Itik with a surprised face and when his eyes met Sinder they became filled with fear and regret.
“No, I can’t kill him,” he thought to himself, “not now, but how much…” He erased his face from all emotions and turned around slowly to get some Mixed Blood. He could still smell the fear from Itik who hadn’t moved an inch.
“Please, Master Itik, enter and report,” he said in a calm voice and asked, “Do you like some Mixed Blood? It’s Boychild.” He said gently as he poured a glass to himself. He heard a weak yes and then Itik seemed to sit down in one of his armchairs, really quiet except for his beating heart. Sinder smiled; Itik were more afraid of the situation than he was. Sinder relaxed a little as he turned around and gave him a glass as he seated himself in the other armchair. When Itik spoke Sinder barely listened, he had seen too much… what to do about this? If he erased his memories people would notice, he could bribe him but that was unsure, Spiders would find out…
Even the good news seemed to pass Sinder as he continued to think about how to solve the situation… forever.
To be continued…
After reading this I ALMOST feel alittle sorry for Itik, but only almost. I’m not sure we’d get a more sympathetic master by getting rid of Itik, but surely we could get a more pedagogic mentor.
Also as usual I’m curious about details. My guess is that the “blurring” was Loke subconciously defending himself by activating this ability. It really seems to fit, as we couldn’t quite “see” him when we approached and it made us feel repulsed.
Also the fact that he had no apparent ill effects from the strange sensation makes me think it’s more than just a “near-death” reaction of the average vampire.
As for the “snapping up an ability” bit… This I can’t seem to make sense of. I keep coming back to what a receiver would be, I can’t remember anything specific which I can relate it to.
Hmmm, I need to think about this…. Should I think of anything else I’ll post it then.
Very interesting story anyway, for the people in the campaign atleast.
Oh yeah, oh yeah…
And it all comes down to “To Be or Not To Be”…
That is the question.
The only thing resembling an ability in todays session was the thing with Loke. But blurring could describe what happened quite good, so the ability was most likely something else. Though I cannot imagine what.
So Itik got into a good mood. We made him happy?! Thats a first.
Some more background information that also confirmed speculations during the session.
Well, off to the next story.
Typo or something. It’s wrong either way.
The right would be giver.
Ok, while a ‘giver’ makes more sense to me I still can’t rememeber anything that I can connect to this.
Maybe if I listened through the session records I could.
