A Dark Life – 1×02 – Know Your Place

Sinder was mixing his blood when he heard a careful knock on the door. He stirred the blood one last time then turned around to greet the young master. In through the door walked Itik with an annoyed smile on his lips. He oozed of frustration and his body screamed of irritation, Sinder smiled to himself.

“So how did the first lesson go?” he asked calmly as he took up the pitcher and poured himself a glass of his newly mixed blood. Itik, moaned frustrated and threw himself carelessly in one of Sinder’s armchairs. Sinder turned around to face him before he chose to give him some mixed blood too, the poor man looked exhausted.

“I had to punish them twice today. They are impossible! No sense of obedience or respect at all. They just seem to be stiff as poles and barely able to grasp the concept of fear and pain. What the hell were they in their past life, retards?” he exclaimed as he accepted the glass from Sinder as he himself sat down in an armchair in front of him.

“One of the bastards,” Itik continued, “even blinded himself and then beat a poor wolfhound to death with his bare fists.” When he said that Sinder looked up. He opened his mouth but Itik preceded him. “No, nothing unusual. He just seems to have muscles that’s all. But his brain must have been damaged in the turning process, he can barely talk.”

Sinder pushed down his irritation; Itik himself seemed to have problem with the three red rules. Though he seemed exhausted so Sinder excused him for this time. “So, have you taught them the basics yet?” he asked as he sipped on his blood.

“Yes, I took up some basics but as I said they still need to learn about the absolute obedience or they won’t last as real vampires. I also took them to the village to get their hunger started… or at least two of them; I left the stupid one to wait for me and it was then he killed the wolfhound.”

Sinder nodded to himself; Itik really was an inexperienced Master. He seemed to think that vampires would obey directly. He had most likely forgotten about his own turning and the hardships of waking up to the world again. “So you haven’t seen any signs of The Powers yet? Or any latent abilities of any kind?” he asked and downed the last of his blood. Itik just shook his head.

“Not if you count enormous stupidity or lack of learning abilities, except for that they seem to be pretty normal. Their masters would probably kill them and then try turning someone else instead if they wanted a heritage power host. They all seem pretty useless to me at the moment.”

“Their masters had them to sleep for one year before they were raised; I doubt they want new bodies after barely one week. You need to progress with them or I’ll find them another master, and this IS your last chance Itik, otherwise you will be punished for your disobedience.” Sinder said with a cold voice which made Itik shiver, Sinder smiled. He should know his place. Hopefully the other two would have better progress with their master, but he needed results or The Ancients would want their bodies back…

Well another interesting story and some clues.

This part makes me think(especially the bold part) that we have been chosen by some ancients to become some sort of host for them , maybe vampires grow old or something like that and they need to transfer something(power , their essence) to a new body or something , but I guess it will be revealed sooner or later. =)

The other part is the basically the last sentences when Sinder hopes the other two is having better progress. It seems to me that there are atleast different factions pulling at us , seeing as Sinder seems to have hidden two of the newlyraised for some Ancients and trains them seperatly.

The letters we got last session could be the names of our Ancients that we belong to , or factions , but that would be weird seeing as Daniel didnt get a letter , oh well just a speculation.

And well it seems that maybe we will have some sort of special powers seeing as we were chosen by Ancients , seeing how Sinder reacted when Itik told him of the wolfhound , but maybe thats just me reading into it too much hehe..

Ah well was an interesting read , keep it up.

Some corrections made, and I see some other stuff that might need corrections but I’ll wait with them until later. Now I’ll sleep. Need to regain some energy.

The letters may also be different latent abilities… Abilities that may not always be something positive…

Interesting way of telling a story, playing a session and then a story of what happens behind the scene. Looking forward to the continuation.

Yeah, that was the idea for the first five or six sessions. This is to explain progress and understanding during the progress until matters are starting to unfold.

I myself isn’t too proud over this story. I had some trouble making it flow as I wanted.

Hmmm, this is indeed interesting. I find myself wondering what “results” really means. Are we all expected to manifest powers because of our ‘heritage’? The blank lottery ticket comes to mind…

But then again I don’t really see how Itik would make us mature faster. Unless vampires somehow develop better/faster in stressful environments. On the other hand mental and physical maturity could be linked meaning that if he doesn’t teach well it could be made faster with a different master.

Considering the impatience with which we are treated it’s not very suprising that time is an issue for Itik anyway.

Hope we get another session this week.
