Evaluation of the Anime Show
Yes, once again falling behind, blah, blah, blah… No need to point it out anymore but well, I guess I’ve been busy doing other things. Yesterday I actually was busy changing things… or something. I went to the WANO’s Anime Show and I must say I was disappointed. They lacked enthusiasm and most of the entertaining stuff they usually have lobby wasn’t there. Not to mention a couple of hundred other flaws. The PS2 had only one controller and the most entertaining game for a event like that for the Game Cube was Super Smash Bros Melee, which if you ask me is a game that is so boringly dull that you only are able to play it every once in a while with friends just to have something to do.
Except for that huge disaster the former chairman Emil1 hadn’t brought along any of his manga but WANO had bought in a small collection of their own, mostly whatever you can buy in town… so most likely everyone on earth have read it or already discarded it already, good job! One thing I was impressed by a long time ago when I went to a show was the decoration they put up in the lobby. This was like the only thing that actually was good, but old none the less. Other than this they had some cookies and such things as well as some free candy.
Well, I might not lead WANO anymore and I might not even know too much myself about how to make an event such as the Anime Shows great an full of speed. But what I DO know is that I’ve arranged seventeen Anime Shows and Two Music Shows and one private thing when I rented Kronan for a night to watch some movies as a farewell to Nanna Li. So I think I might have some right and some experience to speak of when speak about what they’ve done bad and what they can do better.
For starters, the leader of the show should draw more attention to him. Well, this isn’t really necessary but at least the organizers of the event should be more active and at least be able to distinguish from the crowd. They totally failed with this. They had badges, black ones that actually were pretty small so you could barely notice that amongst all the weirdoes that actually show up in a place like that. I bet that I would most likely be taken for the main organizer of the event if I went around, talked to people, informed them about what we did and what you could expect talk a little about anime and ask people how it was going like I did when I actually did organize the thing. Not just sit around, in a slouchy position in a chair and look around like you’re miserable and barely talk to people at all. I had a trick when I arranged the shows. To myself I had this goal to not only to speak to everyone that entered my show but also to learn their names and faces. This meant that I HAD to speak with them, other than that taking place is kind of my thing.
This they could do better. They don’t need to mimic me, it would actually be better if they did it in their own way. But that would mean to at least show some enthusiasm and do things with glee and not boredom in their eyes. If it’s not any go in the show they need to try to make it so anyway. Arrange a game, maybe play around a little just like that or try to start a discussion, and have music in the background! That would improve the feeling enormously! And some more light. Even though it was day when I went there it felt a little bit to dull, usually they have candles everywhere but now they just had one at a table in the entrance, which I must say was a really good idea!
The second thing is not to have too much in the lobby, but not too little either. Balance is good and if you try to study the room before everyone arrives and see that it’s space and that it has at least four corners of interesting stuff and a centre with interesting stuff people would be more intrigued to do something and explore your setting. To try to vary it would be good to, but it’s not that easy I’m afraid but you should at least try it.
The third thing is to have it all pre-set and finished. Sometimes you can’t do anything about this but for instance they should have went there on Friday or maybe when they were getting the key and tried out everything like; is the projector working is the sound alright, is there anything I must bring for this to work? This show they didn’t even take advantage of the sound system but settled for only a minor part of it. The projector wasn’t aligned either but that wasn’t to big a problem. I though always aligned it do to me being really picky with the quality when I used Kronan.
To continue of the previous point you also need to have your episodes in a proper and good format, ready to play and preferably without pause or problems. I would NOT recommend MKV-files if you can’t have the player chose the right track without your intervention and such. One thing I did some of the times (I think only a couple of shows in the end) was to have a perfectly clean desktop (on the computer) but with wallpaper that actually said WANO and Anime Show. This makes the intermission look better than if you have to look at a messy desktop full of idiotic applications and shortcuts.
Well, they can improve and I will point out all these things to them when I get the opportunity to. I will also try to teach them how to become a proper association and get the assessments flowing. Like our association that is finally ready for activities. We still need a meeting, I hope as soon as possible. Where we will discuss the points I have pointed out in my comment on the sessions page and some additional Motions I’ve added. If you have a motion you could just mess me on MSN about it and I will add it in the orderpaper. However, right now we need to await PB’s recover.
Best regards,
