Dexter – 3×01 – Our Father

So the Dexter Saga continues and as SHOWTIME previously sated, now completely free of the book both SHOWTIME and Dexter Morgan will spend this season to evolve the series to something new, something different from the novel by Lindsay. What can we say about this and the first episode?

The first episode was okay, but if I had to say something bad to start with they actually have too much sex-scenes. This is a bad habit most western series seemed to have picked up. Personally I think that sex scenes in a serious series is something that destroy the feeling somewhat. Okay, the character still have his sexuality but do we need to focus on this by showing the act with all the moaning? I think not. It suffices with some cuddling and and obvious nudge to the bed-play but nothing like show as much naked skin as possible and have scenes of fifteen seconds just to show this semi-pornographic scene before we go to murder.

What we know of this season is that Dexter will have a friend to help him in some way. This wasn’t revealed in the first episode, even though the actor and supposedly his comrade in murder-law have made an appearance and you suspect this and that just because of the rumors and what you’ve read about the whole thing. Even so they actually managed to squeeze in some doubts that they’ve given out some missinformation to confuse the viewers. This is good.

A Dexter without a dog barking is also kind of nice. So I have nothing to complain about the brutal end of Doakes. He and  Lila was one of the worst things about the second season I think. Okay he filled up the role of hunting Dexter pretty good but I thought it pretty much destroyed the good impression he left from the first season, not to mention Laguertas Lovu-davu shit with him too.

One good thing though with the fact that the second season isn’t at all based on the book is that the book is going into a science-fiction thing with mystical powers and ancient organisations. This would have ruined the whole Dexter thing, with a supernatural being actually being Dexters dark passenger. This made the series more realistic, which sure is to inspire some new murderers out there.

My worst fear of this season is that this is a big declaration from Showtime that Dexter will go the same way Heroes have the way of money,  O-Kane. This will mean that they will spin, spin, spin it around so the story in the end won’t be reckognizable and everyone will dismiss the story. By the way the third season of Heroes have begun toothey release on Saturdays (Swedish Time) while Dexter release on Mondays. I actually saw the first two episodes of the third season, and well, when you see Hiro Nakamura jump into a future where everyone has powers and when Mohinder becomes Hulken then I sigh. This is what I fear in most Western series. Either they cancel before they can turn bad, or they continue untill they are so bad that they will make Buffy, Angel and Dragonball look good.

Well, well, so far so good. I keep following Dexter.
