Weekend-end
So now the weekend is finally over. It has been a little bit tiresome and somehow just passed away. Friday was pretty okay with Go and everything but most of my Saturday was spent to write on stuff like characters and the adventure for my session today.
The session today went fairly well. Even though I hadn’t prepared as much as I wanted to we got rolling pretty quickly all thanks to David and Ankan that actually got the conversation going. Thanks for that guys! It took a while before people really decided which characters to take. Niclas though, were pretty fast to choose one of the advanced characters.
In the session I had Ankan, David, Kjell-Runo, Niclas and Stefan1. This session was a remake of an adventure I made for the kids. It was a little more mysterious and harder than their version and it had some more plot in it. I had even created characters that were somewhat conflicting with each other so we would have an semi-aggressive dialogue during the game so I could focus somewhat on the game-play instead of the adventure.
If I talk about my own efforts first I must say that I think I did fairly well even though I could do better. I tried to keep down the too extensive explanations of the surroundings and the usually somewhat redundant character description I usually think is very important. Today it was mostly about having fun and to somewhat give a good picture of myself as Game Master and my game as a Role-Playing Game. I think that I should have tried to put even more focus into my performance; even though I tried to play out all the characters individually I got a little sloppy towards the end.
About the others efforts I am pretty satisfied with the non-usual players. Kjell didn’t really go all-out with his Elf when it came to speaking but he did it most of the time which is something people seldom do in our group. Niclas played a vampire, which was meant to be a little bit conspiring and dark. He actually managed to succeed in his role even though he only killed one player when I hoped for more, hehe. TNT actually was pretty okay this session I think, but then again I had sent him an extensive e-mail before letting him play where I made it clear on some things. He played the Magician though which he could have played better, but it’s Stefan so what the hell.
David and Ankan… well, what shall I say about you guys? It was really good start there, David started the whole thing and Ankan tagged along and then the whole game got going. But as for how they played the characters. Ankan actually seemed a little bit too reserved compared to his character description. You two didn’t really play out your characters as the description I think. The dwarf was supposed to be the smart-ass and to take place because he is a dwarf, a dwarf likes attention, more forward and extrovert please. David’s character was a little bit easier to play, but I think that he could have played it better, instead of just letting people split up he could have tried to order them around little and use his position as base. But well, as I said, you need to train to live into the character descriptions more.
Now don’t get me wrong any of you, neither of you played badly, but I had higher demands and expectations on my own players. The whole purpose of the Convention thing was just to have my players evolve. But then again Ankan was the only one interested in this thing. Foppa isn’t interested and is as he is and David doesn’t seem interested in this kind of thing either, he seems mostly interested in the world than in improving. As for PB, he tried to use his work as an excuse, which I still won’t buy. Especially not when PB wanted to play a session today. No, I will always believe that it’s PB’s strange opinion not to play temporary characters that controlled his actions. But I guess we’ll see next convention if the same work lie will appeal or if the effort will be made by those who cares about improving themselves as role-players.
