Short Story – A Letter of Gossip

Well, here we have a little different kind of short story. The lack of a post yesterday was due to the Convention. I must say that it went pretty well even though Discussions with a Fool like Frej and a person like TNT isn’t something I want to spend all my evening with. Well, well… time goes on, let’s see how you like this one.

Dear Jimhow,
I believe I’ve found something of interest in my latest research. As requested I now file this report to be one of the most important discoveries in the project and it’s concerning one of the biggest smallest organizations in the known world, Gossip.

This organization has always been believed to be a gathering, or a guild if one like, of collectors of information. I believe them to be so much more than that since my last founding. I’ve seen a pattern in their movements that strongly resembles the Seven-Star theory. They claim not to be an organization but traders, but which traders have an operation that is available in most of the twelve countries? Only the Eye and the Priests, as far as I know.

Who are they really? And who leads them? Where do they have their base and how do they get a hold of all that information so quickly? How can they always seem to survive even though kings and countries have tried to crush them? They seem to have been here since the first Age of the Apocalypse and they always have tried to keep a low profile and not make enemies with anyone.

I found several signs that the first Gossip actually was formed in the war-thorn land as messengers for the emperor but that they actually originated from the slaves of Sancho which we later know became Exile. The question is if they actually were messengers for the emperor or if they just sided with him for the time being?

I actually found one document that stated that one of Gossips leaders were caught in Danzen, but killed by an assassin under impossible circumstances. The assassin himself was later caught, but he was dead already. There are also signs that they sometimes seem to have insider information from every government before their moves, this is yet to be explained when the information often seem to come before they even know it themselves.

All of this matches up with several points of the Seven-Star theory and I believe that Gossip is a great threat to our plans. Even so, I think that I might be able to find out the truth behind Gossip if you give me your permission. And with my plan we might be able to not only render them harmless but maybe even use them to our advantage.

Respectfully,
Anannakara

The man Jimhow looked at the letter again. So this was his founding? He couldn’t see how this would affect their plans, Gossip had never made any major differences on the major scale the last few years. The only ones who used them were rich idiots that wanted worthless pieces of forged information. They were hoaxers and thieves with an organization that resembled an rebel cell. But the fact that they never took sides made them look like an organization that tried to control things. Heh, the Emperor would never be tricked by such an organization; he would feel their intentions as soon as they tried to scam him.

Even so, he knew that Anannakara – it was a really horrible code name – was right. He was always right and he obviously saw things he didn’t. The only time he hadn’t listened to his advice, it had almost cost him his life, not to mention almost exposed and destroyed everything he had worked for. This time though, he knew better. He stood up and started walking, if they were going to crush Gossip they better needed to fight them in the best way the could, with information.

So here we are again my friends. Speculations maybe? I don’t think this will have anything to do with you, and therefore I just pointed out this. There are two reasons to why I wrote this.
One, it has to do with the workings of the war and two, you know so little about the new Gossip. However, it’s always fun to reveal things like this partially.

Best regards,
Herid Fel

    Well. Some new interesting information about Gossip. So they are world-wide nowadays, but what is the Seven-Star theory? By the way it is used in the text I’d guess that it has something to do with predicting the future by the stars.
    But who are they? The only clue I can find is their reference to the war-thorn (guessing it should be torn) land and the reference to the emperor of the land. By that the land should be Aguin – or maybe Meno, since that land has been under the emperors control. But I don’t know at what point in time Gossip was founded.
    But by the way they mention the land without name I would guess that they have some kind of connection with Aguin or Meno. Like they are from there – or maybe, but not likely connected to the rulers of the country.

    Hmm seems Ankan summed it up pretty much , like the Seven-Star theory , and that Gossip now is world-wide. And im just gonna take a guess out of the blue but I think the people in the story are from The Order , just a guess though.

    Heh, Gossip is only in Lanticka, but they have information that covers the whole world. Therefore it’s possible to get information from them about anything. They haven’t changed you know. They just have discovered that they have operations all over the world.

    I will now scrap some of your speculations;
    To begin with, they mean lan as in general. During the Fire Wars it was war everywhere except in Aguin. Therefore all LAND was war-torn.
    They are not The Order, good guess though.

    By the way nobody knows when Gossip actually was founded, they only knew when the name for the information bureau came up for the first time.

    Something worth continuing to speculate (and which I would be happy to see how you react is rather this);
    Who are the persons in the story? Anannakara and Jimhow and what plans are they brewing that Gossip could be a hinderence in?

    Hehe…

    Hmm well , its hard to really get a clue who Anannakara and Jimhow is since Im guessing both names are not their real ones.. as stated in the story , and you dont really get much other information than that they seem to dislike Gossip or atleast want to bring it down and since we dont really know what the Seven-star theory is its very hard to speculate anything, ofcourse it could have to do with the upcoming succession to the throne in Lanticka but I dont really think so.

    Other than that it might have something to do with something that has close ties to the emperor since his “name” seems to pop up , also it might be something holy.

    Atleast I belive that Anannakara and Jimhow is both from some sort of organization , probably one of the secret ones. It might even be people we already met/read/heard about from you but since their names are masked , well hard to tell =)

    Still hard to tell who they are or what their plans are. But I suppose they are great. But not necessarily so in a positive way.
    Gossip may be a hindrance in just about any big plans, either if Gossip itself is against them or if there is simply the risk of someone asking Gossip the right question…
