Short Story – The Blue Ice

Once again I write a short story even though your feedback hasn’t been sufficient to boost my will to write. You are simply lucky that I have this burst of energy right now so I willingly will write this just because thoughts and dreams are wasted otherwise. I’m so full of these imaginations that it would be a shame not to share it, or at least save it for others or the future when someone decent enough will properly give me feedback and appreciate my work.

Wind blew harshly over the barren ice and every now and then a gust threw up some snow into the air to join the wind. The wind was going west in an enormous speed, soon the wind would return from the east with shards of ice ready to pierce through the skin of any grown man. But that would take a couple of days. Five, he decided upon, it would take five days before the wind returned as a storm here. He nodded to himself and wrote it down in his book.

In the south he suddenly caught a glimpse of something shimmering, a reflection of some kind. He focused his vision and look towards the light. Near the horizon, just passing by a big hill made of snow, stone and ice a group of people emerged. They must have used the secret tunnels to get this far without any notification. But only a few could use the tunnels without being killed by the guards.   He pushed his vision even further, risking becoming snowblind, to try and se if this were a friend or foe. In the lead for this little group walked a man, all dressed in dark blue winter garments walking directly towards the settlement. He looked through the group following him and suddenly something dazzled his vision. Startled by the sudden light he took some steps back trying to recover his vision.

“My Lorrrd Prrropet, is everrrytin’ alrrrit?” the acolyte asked worryingly. “Yes, Chanaz. Everything is alright,” he answered, but then added; “Though I might be blind.”
He heard a gasp from Chanaz, but didn’t care for the moment. His vision had become blurred but even though he tried to relax it seemed like he was losing his vision, again. If the prophecy was right, this was the last time he would lose his vision and this time it was for good. The Holy Blinding! It must be the Two-Blood!

“Send a word to Fergos Chanaz. Say that the Two-Blood has arrived!” he ordered excited. It must be the Two-Blood, otherwise his vision should have returned by now. He looked to the sky, feeling it’s warmth against his fur. I wonder if Max is flying today? I wished I could have seen him one more time before The Holy Blinding. He turned around, trying to use his senses and started to walk into the settlement. There was much to be done; even though they still missed the White Wolf half of the prophecy had been fulfilled. The human girl, born out of a Brizzt, had arrived.

“Mission Accomplished,” he said as he jumped up from the pond. Barak stood crouching in front of him looking very sly but lazy, as if he was brewing a special plan, as always. He looked around and found the others standing around idly. Something was wrong; he could sense it, but what? It was quiet except for the buzzing of the fireflies.

“We have a problem,” Tindra said, looking down into another pond. He sensed that this wasn’t one of the usual problems. No, this was something grave. He sighed and walked over to Tindra to look down the pond, it was… flickering. “How…” he asked bewildered. “This has never happened, what’s wrong with it?”
One moment he saw the surroundings in a forest, most likely Lanticka or Deben, and then suddenly he saw the inside of a glorious hall, most likely at Magicka or Meno. It continued to flicker through a random set of images but never ever focusing. This had never happened during the two hundred years they had been in possession of the Galaxy.

“What does it mean,” he asked as he crouched down, trying to catch a glimpse of the Starcrossed. “We… don’t know,” Tindra said. He could feel her fear, this had never happened. He tried to push his presence through the pond but was immediately pushed back, or maybe cut off. Boris turned and walked towards the pond.

“Amathysta tried to jump down, you know how reckless she is, but was torn apart, thrown Gods’ knows where.” he said quietly. He always talked quietly, except for when he was angry, and then you rather run than stay and listen. He looked up at Boris, deeply saddened by the news. Amathysta had been with them for almost thirty years… he really had liked her. But they had a job to do, so he tried to push away his feelings. He rose and turned around, facing the others.

“Is everyone here?” he asked trying to see if someone else was missing. Everyone nodded and with the exception of Amethysta they seemed all to be gathered around the palms and bushes of the galaxy ponds. He sighed and then started to brief everyone on the situation, they needed to seek alliances with some of the others. The Order had shattered, and if they didn’t prepare they would all be killed when the corrupt Order decided to annihilate the others…

Well, this is it, some more stories. This is also a hint about what’s going on around the world right now. You know and have met both characters in these PoV’s. If you are clever and sharp you also might know what they are talking about and what’s really happening. If I count it right, you should know about three names of the persons involved in these stories.

Hehe , well I gotta say that both of these were a very good and entertaining read , both abit mysterious if you havent played with these characters or been in the galaxy.

And I hope you keep the writing up , even though we might give you enough feedback, for me it feels really hard to comment on youre writing skills and stories as a whole since my writing skills is very bad compared to yours 🙂

Anyway , was a good read , keep it up

Well, can you guess who’s in the stories then. You should be able to recognize about four characters in total.

  3. Patrik says:

Hmm well , we have ankans character(although I forgot the name of that brizzt , but im pretty sure its him) , and then we have Barack(leader of HoY?) , and I dont know if you include Max in those four but atleast I know who the brizzt is refering to.
And I guess the human girl born out of a brizzt is the last of the three.
The order.. hmm Im taking a wild guess at Obsidian Order but it might be completly wrong. but actually I only recognize three of the persons.. maybe someone from the galaxy part that we have met briefly.

I will wait awhile before I completely reveal the answer. I know Ankan is awake so maybe if he decides to comment I will give you the answer. Actually, when you think about Max, it’s five characters you should be able to recognize.

  5. Ankan says:

I think I recognize three (four with Max, possibly one more of the group in the second story, but not which one of them) of the characters and yes, the stories where an entertaining read. Among the stories that potentially gives us the most information on the surroundings.

Beginning a story with the description of a wind flowing over a landscape are we? Where could we have seen that before…

And admit it, Mistborn inspired you on some of the stuff in the first story… Especially the third paragraph… Sounds familiar, or at least something similar.

So, nice stories. Keep it up with those prophecies, they give the stories of Nianze a lot of depth.

So maybe I should press submit now so you don’t have to wait any more… Let’s see what the answer is.

  6. Herid Fel says:

Well, to begin with the wind thing is the best thing to start with when describing Icea, snow, ice, snow, ice…. wind, snow ice! Not the The Wheel of time turn, wind. Hehe.

Nope, it wasn’t inspired from Mistborn I’m afraid. Didn’t even think of it before you said it now. The term is actually something I’ve already implemented while kidding around with the Holy Addendums a while ago. But I’m not really sure what you think I got inspiration from…

Well… In the first story the PoV is from Zarek, Ankan’s old character that after finding a book, which he couldn’t read by then, became a prophet.

Then the Two-Blood is Areina, of course it is. This is when she finally arrived at Icea since HoY saved her after Jayde had abandoned her in Aguin.

The PoV in the second is the man you fought just before you abandoned Areina when you saw the monstrous beasts they use as vehicles in Aguin. He was also apparent in Icefalls where he saved you.

Max, was actually someone I missed, but well, you all know him. Then for the last one I was reffering to Tindra, who you all refer to as Majoren. The Cat. HoY is a group of shape-shifters and all can take different forms. Tindra is the Catshifter.

    Something else I should clarify?

  7. Patrik says:

The order? or is it a huge spoiler what he means by that?

  8. Herid Fel says:

Yes, I just remembered something I should clarify since this was a while ago.

Some of you might not remember when Zarek got that book or know how he’s tied to Areina but well, let me tell you.

Areina was born in a house where you all fought even! Camilla was here and played a guestrole as Foppa’s character. The misson was to infiltrate a building where a Brizzt, an evil brizzt with good power had captured some people. The fight ended pretty good, I think that David or Camilla somehow pwned this über boss with a trick-move or something. There you saved a pregnat Brizzt and got some information as well as a book.

The book Zarek took with him to Hamlet (The Tiger Island) and there Ankan Decided to forfeit him. I therefore even said, that Ankan would continue up to Icea with the book where a prophecy were told. It was about Areina. I then later, implemented her with Tuon, as an annoying SLP, somehow Robert had inspired me with his childish charisma of his to create evil kids that created strong bonds by doing almost nothing so I was in that mode back then. Areina later, well.. was forfeited by Jayde…

    That’s the whole story.

  9. Herid Fel says:

The order? or is it a huge spoiler what he means by that?

I cannot tell. Though Foppa knows…

  10. Herid Fel says:

Just to add so that people doesn’t miss it. I’ve opened the Nianze News 006, the only one who hasn’t read it yet is Foppa I think. However, I also wrote something on the sessions page.

With that I bid you good night and will now go to bed. Tomorrow, if you are lucky there might be another Short Story. They are becomming an awfull lot of them now lately. If people react like this to everything I write I would like never stop writing things!

    Good Night.
