Travel Journal – Thursday 1/5 – 08

Well, where to begin… haha, nope, nothing to begin with really. One could wish that this night would have been as crazy as the last one but to be honest we didn’t even go out all due to several factors we should have been able to see… but we didn’t. The tea room wasn’t over until half past ten, both I and Jim were chatting with the same lady me and Danielle talked to about… two weeks prior to this day. We chatted about everything, as it’s meant to be, but one thing that was a little bit strange or at least funny was that the longest subject we had was about rollercoaster’s and amusement parks. Her fear of them, our thrill and all our experiences we had had at different amusement parks. Well, and then when it was over and Miiko had written her receipts and given Jim his last salary the clock was nearly eleven, which was too late to go out and start, at least here.

That’s a little bit strange I think. As far I’ve understood it from the people partying a lot they often start around 21 to 22, if they are going to drink. Here they start about 18-20 and go on until the train’s starts running again. But well, sure there is people in Sweden doing the same thing… they are called alcoholics, haha, maybe not. It just feels like it’s a little different here than back home, even thou I’m not the right person to speak when I’m almost never drinking and when my visits to a club/bar/pub to drink in Sweden is countable on the one hand’s fingers. So well… maybe I’ll just never notice it due to my inactivity in the area back home, not that I plan to become active either. It costs so much that it doesn’t seem like it’s worth it. I rather play role-playing games or spend my hours with someone I enjoy the company of.

So, speaking of nothing I’ve taken about six hundred and fifty pictures1, and due to the simple fact that my cameras time and date is not at all Japanese I’ve put all the pictures in a single folder2. Most of the pictures is on the places I’ve visited and the people I’ve met, even thou I’ve tried to take some pictures of myself too, like the ones I use on MSN the few times I use it. Well, it seems like I’m still stuck at yesterday’s event so let’s continue with those I think. Adam and Simon is my new roommates, so let me tell you a little about the Hippie and the Fool… yeah, fool. That’s exactly what Simon is, I think.

Adam is a boy of the same age as me that is from Yorkshire in Britain. He’s been here for about a month studying as an exchange student. He’s an okay guy, and the only thing worth mentioning about his appearance is that he have his eyes open, too open. All the time it seems like he is on drugs or something and just to enhance this feeling he is speaking like a Hippie with “You know what I’m saying, man?” and similar expressions. And his way of moving when he speaks is defiantly to dramatic. If I didn’t know better I would suspect that he is or was a former drug addict of weed3. Other than this he seems pretty open minded and good of taking care of himself.

Simon on the other hand is a German boy of twenty-five. He’s studying in Korea to become a… I don’t seem to remember what it’s called right now, but one that develops and do stuff with protocols. I think Ankan know exactly what I mean at the moment, but he is even more narrow-minded than me. And he has such illusions in his head. At first I thought he was a geek that actually was a little bit different from the rest, but alas he wasn’t. Okay, I know that many of my opinions and way of thinking is different from the society’s and the normal peoples view but his stupid obsession with that most humans are completely unselfish and that many things are free etcetera about how good the development of the societies are…
I don’t know what you think about the society today, but that we are close to perfection and that the human kind is becoming unselfish? And when I started to argue with him he fell into the same trap as Marcus4 to start arguing about things I actually know. The whole discussion ended with that the Hippie coming in and starting to say a lot of things that were a little farfetched and hard to see how it had to do with the subject, which made Simon give up.

Well, then today. I’ve spent money, may god forgive me. Thou I haven’t spent any of my own money! Haha, that’s pretty funny. I’ve just bought things that others have asked me to buy. I’ve bought something to PB and some mangas for David. I’ve been going around the city the whole day looking for things. So actually most of the day is very uneventful when I spent about seven hours walking around Tokyo-district, Akiba and Ueno in search for things I’ve been asked to buy. I have bad news too, I can’t go to the Ghibli museum, due to the golden week5, and all tickets is sold out. Well, the plan is to return here anyway in July or August so I guess I have to do that then…

Well, when I got home I chatted a little on the internet before I got to rest a little and make up plans for the next day now when I don’t have anything, except for maybe a movie. After a while did I go out to have some food. I first had my plan to have curry, but due to the fact I’m eating it almost always I went to a steak house instead, one in this block that’s been closed during the day and during the evening I’ve been with Danielle so I’ve avoided to enter a steak house again. This one was really interesting actually, it wasn’t as the other one it was much more interesting, and expensive. You sit at a special bar, with a little fire in front of you, and you order in meat that you then make over the fire while eating at the same time. It feels a little like fondue but with fire instead of boiling oil. A regular plate with meat was about 500 yen and had three plates and one beer. So all and all it cost me about 2000 yen, which is the most expensive meal I’ve had here. One thing I saw thou was that they had different buffets with a lot of meat. The only thing was that you needed to be at least two to four persons and some of the better buffets you needed to book a couple of days before. Maybe if I get more people with me next time. Then it will only cost about 1500 for about twice or even three times as much!

Now, when Ghibli is over maybe I’ll go to Shinjuku or Roppongi tomorrow night instead and buys the last stuff people have asked me to buy during the day. I think that I will drop some of my clothes here, some of the ones that are too small and useless to get more space in my bags. Some that have asked me to buy things may not get it, due to the simple fact that I don’t have space for all or that it’s impossible or too hard to find the things they ask for. I’m here to enjoy myself, I won’t run around searching for things that are hard to find. Because humans are selfish and I’m especially selfish no matter how you see it, at least in my opinion. But that’s me and I could be wrong… Maybe it’s a big tragedy6.

So I’ll continue to waste some money and think about if life should or shouldn’t return to normal when I get home, haha. I’ve heard that my postcards have reached Sweden, even thou some haven’t come to the right address. It’s good to know that it didn’t take forever for them to reach their destination; I hope that everyone that got them appreciates them and likes them. Well, now I’ll drink some tea and maybe work a little on Nianze, even thou this may be the end for that kind of thing, hahahahaha!7

Best regards,
