Travel Journal – Tuesday 29/4 – 08
Well, waking up today was really different, as well as sleeping had been. Not being woken by someone going to the toilet every other hour or someone snoring or things like that. Just the trains and sounds from outside… quite peaceful. I got up pretty early in the morning, due to that I thought that I had slept for too long, obviously I hadn’t, I just had had an undisturbed sleep so I was finished earlier. So well, getting up at this useless hour I just ate some of the breakfast I’ve bought myself yesterday evening. Yeah, I had bought some yoghurt, a bag of Yakult1, some slices of cheese2, some ham and a package of meat on sticks, cooked and everything.
Well, however, I spent most of the morning with writing stuff and organizing stuff in my computer when I decided to start plan the next few days a little. This is the last “run” so to speak so everything I want to do I should do and to manage to do this with as little expenses as possible I need to carefully plan everything. Well, yeah, it sounds a little bit stupid but planning actually makes things easier sometimes so you don’t end up somewhere and need to improvise all the time. So I flipped through some books I had, and checked my notes and my luggage. Yesterday I sent out some E-mails to people to get a clarification of what they wanted me to buy for them and so on, so I decided that I needed to check up the prices for everything.
When I was finished with some of my planning, actually I had just finished a list of things I needed to do because I still needed to check up some things on the internet, I went to Ueno to take a stroll through the park and to check up some prices for Mangas and such. The park was really amazing, and it was really nice weather too. It was big, full with trees and had a big sea3 and three temples in it. One of them I’ve already been to, one other you had to go into the Zoo to see and the last one I went to, hehe. It was really relaxing walking around in the nice weather looking at things just taking it slow for a while. In the end of my stroll I sat down at a lunch place and read my Manga for about one hour until I got hungry again and decided to find a place to eat or go back to Kita-Urawa to get a hold of Jim and use the internet.
Well, due to the fact that I had food in the apartment I finally decided to go back here to eat and relax for a bit4. After that I used the internet and talked to Jim. Tomorrow was Jim’s last day at work so today we would only go out for a beer here in Kita-Urawa but tomorrow we were going to Shinjuku or maybe Roppongi to celebrate before he leave Japan for China. When I was talking to him three new persons arrived. A couple, around their forties to fifties, from the US and a German boy, just three years older than me, that would stay together with me in the apartment. Jim and I invited them all to come and have a drink, but the woman in the couple declined but the man and the boy, Simon, joined us.
Well, after about two beers, which I might say tasted horrible, we went back to the apartment. Jim was sleeping in our room tonight due to the fact that he had been working until really late and after the beer it was too late for him anyway. By the way, when we got out of the bar something strange happened. This is one of the things that never happen in Sweden, one of the waiters from the bar ran after us just to give us a free Yakult, which I found pretty funny due to the fact that I just recently bought some…
