Understanding and Respect

Today I’ve noticed that my linguistic skills are in some areas better in English than in Swedish. I’m pretty sure this is the case for most of our generation and those around us, at least those of us that haven’t developed a deeper understanding for the language.
But most of us just have learned English trough constant, but reluctant, practice in school and of course through television and internet. I think that the latter is the most giving source for our skills, and therefore where our spirited learning is taking place. When we can associate the words to situations and emotions that are mediated from what we see.

This of course has made us to learn some word incorrectly, and when we use them incorrectly, we give them the wrong meaning. Like the word pathetic. In both English as well as Swedish we use the word instead of pitiful. When it’s actually is a word for great compassion over something that bring forth emotions. But instead we have managed to turn this too, to something bad and use it as an insult.

That is something I don’t like at all, that some words that have a positive or emotional meaning often is turned to something bad by those who don’t understand it. Like the slang Emo. Emo stands originally for emotional. Coming from the phrases used by welfare officers and psychologists for people, foremost kids, which have emotional issues of some kind. Emo have now two regular uses. One that means someone who is seeking attention and that is hurting himself to obtain this goal and two someone who is expressing their feeling too much.

The first use I think have come from the classmates and colleges of the person in question, mostly to insult the person. I think that the reason for this is that those around the person don’t understand or won’t understand the person in question and therefore insult the person when all his/her action seems to draw attention from the adults.

The second use of this word I think is similar to the first but in this case the person in question is very emotional and have problems to control his/her feelings and express them often. This, according to me, is both good and bad. One who is in close contact with ones feelings is one that has the best possibility to find happiness in life. But one who can’t control or manage ones feelings are weak and may one day crumble under them and become depressive.

Finally I want to say that bending words that have a meaning to something negative is greatly annoying and are a signs of ignorance.

But that’s people today, constantly insulting or trying to insult those around them. Understanding someone is out of the question, mostly with kids. When you understand something, the mystery is gone as well as things that makes the interaction fun. Because it’s only a game to kids and due to the fact that the reality is too boring it’s only natural for kids trying to fleeing reality and the serious matter that are a part of this.
But it’s not only kids, teenagers, young-adults and some adults too tries to ignore this, and well, the adults have it tougher, if they are going to have a pleasant life, while the kids and teenagers have it a little easier. Understanding and respecting others are hard for the young, but well…

Daniel came by today. His computer broke down a couple of days ago, and he couldn’t stand it being without a computer so he finally went down here to get a new one, and he dropped the defect one here so I could have a look at it. Well, we’ll see what Doctor Herid can do, hoho..

Other than that my day has been pretty calm. I’ve watched anime most of the day. Other than that I’ve done the dishes and cleaned the kitchen a little. I’ve of course sat by my computer too, but that’s too obvious I think.

I think I need to be harder with Robert too. He’s starting to take me for granted and well, I need to remove or change the limits I’ve put up for him. He’s not a kid anymore after all, he’s a teenager. Hehe, it will take while to adjust to that, maybe as long as it will take to adjust to writing 2008 instead of 2007. Well, we’ll see. Now I think I will watch some more anime and maybe do something more productive later.
