Nianze News #005

L: Good day and welcome to another broadcast of the Nianze News.
It seems like the voting hasn’t gone too well for some mystical reason, but I hope that it we will get some more votes before Sunday night. Until then, we’ll try to keep you posted about the most recent changes in the world.
D: Yes, the voting hasn’t gone so good and as far as I’m concerned it can stay that way. I prefer the easy news instead. Like riots and brawls, new brews of ale and other thing that you just need to question people instead of needing to risk life and limb to get some top secret information from the Chamber of Knowledge.
L: Well, enough of your complaining. Let’s give them some updates now. Elm, as a respected and powerful magician, can you tell us what have happened in the magical world the past few days?
E: Certainly Suss, I’ll try to do my best.
L: *Smiles* I know you will, but keep it short, will you?
E: Of course, I don’t want to bore our listeners as well. Well, where to start? Oh, yes I know! We mentalists have suffered a great degradation when the magical council of Magun and Magicka has removed about half of our spells. Some of them are now considered a part of the forbidden magic and others we’ve lost monopoly on. Like Dark vision, that was granted to the Kremises. Other spells have been considered unnecessary and redundant of others so instead they improved the earlier versions and made it more efficient.
D: That was right on time! No one dared to even approach you mentalists with your over-powerful spells and with an arsenal that was almost twice as big as the other schools spells.
L: Does this mean that the Animists have the most spells available right now?
E: Yes, unfortunately it seems like that is the case. And at the moment the system is a little unstable when almost every school has the same magic cost but the animism have quicker but less offensive spells. This will be changed soon I think, when people starts to use mentalism and elementarism that both have been remade just because of the redundant and unnecessary spells it contained, not to mentioned all the spells that now belongs to the forbidden magic.
L: I see, but what do you think about the potential of the new magical system?
E: I think that it may be just what mages needed to get more interesting. But if I try to look on the whole picture I see that it may be much to keep count on if you are a real magician. A magic user, like you Suss, probably will have somewhat easier to understand the system but you will probably run out of magic capacity almost instantaneous if you use more than just a few spells of the mentalists aspects.
L: Hmm, well I have to deal with that later. Any more changes for in the magical world? What is this “Forbidden Magic” you talk about?
E: It’s an old-new concept that has been reinstated. This categorizes some famous spells into a forbidden school with the purpose to create some ethics amongst the mages and even protect some of the non-magical users. Very destructive spells that breaks against the law of life, like the Mind destroyer or Disintegrate, are considered forbidden when both these spells give the victims an almost zero possibility of survival and often destroys their life completely.
L: It’s like the necromancers spells?
E: Almost, necromancy is also considered one of the top forbidden schools, after the Chaomantic School. But there is some necromantic spells that are allowed and even adapted into other schools. Like the laser, which the elementarists have adapted.
L: I see. I’ve also heard that spells now have got a type classification, is that true?
E: Yes it is. Right now there is three types, but it’s only preliminary. The types are A, B and C. And one spell can have a classification with two letters.
Type A is success-for-effect this means that if you don’t succed you won’t get any effect at all. Type B is skill-determined-effect which means that the better skill you have in using this particular spell, the higher the effect will be. Type C is skill-determines-level-of-effect which is similar to type B just with the thing that these spells are easy to perform, but you need to train and develop stronger versions of the spell. This is a very common type for the animist-spells where skills in certain spells aren’t the most important thing. Then we have the combinations, AB-type of spells for an example. These spells grow more powerful as you become more skilled.
L: Well, I think that’s enough Elm, thank you.
D: *Snores loudly*
L: Well, as you can hear, D have fallen asleep. We’ll be back later with some new news about the new racial abilities! This was the Nianze News and we’ll be back as soon as we got some more news to share with you, until then vote and keep your telepathic radio tuned on this frequency!

That’s it. I hope that will statisfy you all.
With some consideration I’ve decided not to have a combined classification system. A, B and C seems to be sufficient.
A = Just a successful roll is needed to succeed
B = FV-determines strength, a roll is needed for success.
C = No roll is needed, FV-determines the level of the spell.
If you need clarification, ask!
So an A class spell cant get stronger than it already is? Or do I miss something?
Correct. They don’t get stronger in effect at all.
But lately Robert have been a mage and I’ve had a great oppertunity to test the elementarists magics, and it seems like chaincasting is one of the best and most wonderful ideas in the magic system so far. If one succeed with it…
