Holy Class Removal

Hello everyone!

I’ve decided to remove the classes Priest and Holy Warrior. This is due to a major change in the game, the rules and in-game.

You ask why?
Why in the world would I remove classes so important to the game that just recently became even more important just about a year ago?

Well the answer is simple but complex; because they are an important part of the game.
In the world of Nianze the Inquisitions are the ones that control everything. They are the base of the governments and they are the most powerful known organization with the support from the gods. Every country has a god assigned to them, and every month is named after a god…

So with gods everywhere and with the Gods even following the great gods (Gude and Sate) Nianze is a very religious based game. Therefore I will change the whole theme to a Holy Game. So to make a long thing short, everyone is either a priest or a holy warrior. Or rather, everyone can be one.

It’s like a supplement or an addendum to ones class. This will make the holy prayers, rituals and powers available to everyone, for a price. This price is subclass.
If you choose to align yourself to the gods you won’t be able to develop a subclass.
This is due to the fact that you as a follower of your god shall rely on their powers and develop divinely and not try to find other ways to power. Your belief shall be the only strength you need and if you want to find strength without belief you simply abandon your way and get yourself a subclass, but doing this you can’t undo it.

So if you choose to add this holy addendum to your character, what will that mean for you?

Well, first of all, you will have to follow a religion, which in Nianze means not only praying but also going on sacred missions and doing special tasks for your gods and follow the divine plan for survival of the apocalypse.

You will be able to use the faith-system. You can now collect Sacral to use special prayers and rituals or to gain powers or using holy abilities or summoning weapons and armors or to fight the Unholy. This won’t be available to someone who hasn’t committed themselves to the church.

You can also increase your Sacral-level by doing deeds for your religion and with this becoming even more powerful and in the end gain the prestige class of Crusader, Demon Hunter, Enchanter, Paladin, Seal Protector or True Priest. These prestige classes have some similarity to a subclass.

You will have to be loyal to a church, which will mean that you’ll have a line in the loyalty field for the church which will determine how you are progressing as well as how powerful and liked you are amongst the holy ones. You will also gain a holy title.

So I’ve chosen a holy addendum, how am I different from another character with the same stats and class as me?

In many ways, if you are lucky and have made a favored combination, your class name will change. For example a Kremis following Sate with main god Brémo will be called a Shadow Priest or a Shadow Warrior, depending if you commit yourself to the way of the Priest or the Warrior. I haven’t made up so many favored combination yet, but it will come as I se combinations be put together.

Well, you have an extension of your class from TFV 1, if your loyalty toward your church is high enough, while a regular character needs to wait for their first (and only) extension on TFV 11, which makes character much more powerful and trickier than the rest.

One problem thou, if you first decide to have a holy addendum till TFV 11 and you decide you want a subclass instead, you won’t ever be able to become holy ever again. You can only abandon the holy way as many times as you can enter it… in other words, only once. And by abandoning the holy way, you will have a bad mark over you, which all holy ones can se. After TFV 11 you won’t be able to abandon the way for a subclass either, due to a curse of regret.

Plus the obvious, you can use special prayers etc.

What will this mean to the game?

Hopefully that you all now will try to explore some new possibilities and while you do finding out how big part of Nianze I’ve meant for it to be.

Creating more variations for characters, and hopefully even create some more dynamic in the game world.

Well what more can I say, this is my idea and if you have some questions, please post them here and I’ll try to answer. I also want to know your opinions about this.

Is it good or bad, and why is it good or bad?
Do you think this will work, or is this a big blunder on my part?

Well, opinions, please!

Best regards,
Herid Fel

Intresting. I do not really have time to write a better comment than this right now but it will come.

    I really like this idea.
It is a good idea because it brings greater versiality to the game. And I know you have had a hard time making religious classes religous in their abilities and still not beeing boring or to powerful. This makes everyone able to choose.
To be honest I can’t see anything really bad about the system, well some classes will be favored for some gods but I guess that is what you wan’t. And the battles will be harder since you will have a hard time figuring out what your opponents can do.
There is alsoe a chance the group will be easier splited now. More will play holy characters and if all play holy classes all have holy missions and noone will want to fail their quests.

I think that this change has great potential and only time will tell if this was a blunder.

Seeing how unpopular priest and holy warrior was before, I really hope it will change that by making it more flexible.
Although by making this change, I for once would like to see some results… like prayers and rituals and so on, cause it still feels kinda empty since all ive heard/experienced are just a few examples of what prayers/rituals have to offer, and I really hope the holy way will be viable and actually useable since holy stuff is a big part of Nianze.

Anyway.. I will ponder this change some more and post something later maybe.

I will offer you results, I have about two dozen prayers almost ready to use and about a handful of rituals and other holy stuff.

If they are usable we’ll se when you start using them, cause many times when I’ve done something new it proves itself to be useless in actual game… like ritual that takes forever and does almost nothing…

As for the thought about an split in the group…
I really hope it won’t be like that, and it’s up to me to try to make it possible to play without the group tearing itself apart. I think that it may be hard to play a group with only holy addendums, but I hope and suspect that only a few, about one or two at most, will have this at the same time.

And the holy quests I’m thinking about isn’t quests that needs to be followed 24/7 in Nianze, it’s more on a long run. But we’ll see…

I also believes this concept to be promising.

About a group with holy addendums, isn’t likely that all will want to test it out so that the first group after holy warriors and priests are introduced will contain, maybe only, holy dudes?

Can you convert from a religion to another now? Or does the part about you can’t enter the holy path more than once conflict with this. Alternativly, can you convert to some Gods and some not? For example from Iris to Fergos? but not Iris to Agusí?

Since Holy Warriors and Priests train to become holy I guess, maybe Holy Warriors and Priests could have the normal class training +3 years or something?

    Just some thoughts.

To begin with, many of you may now want to try it, but I know that most of you try to keep to a concept, even if I say you shouldn’t do that…
So I believe that you only will choose a holy addendum if you think you want to be holy all the way, with no subclass. But we’ll see, maybe everyone wants a holy addendum.

Yes, you can convert from one religion to another one, but you will get the title Sinner. This all of the other religious followers will be able to se and it will complicate your progress in the other church.

And to clarify some things, there is only THREE religions in Nianze. The Satanism, the Goddism and the Vordénism. Each of these religions contains four gods that you follow, so now you follow four gods instead of just one. But, you can favor one of them if you like, which will make the prayers, rituals, powers and abilities from that god’s arsenal cost less sacral.

One other thing you seem to have misunderstood is that this IS NOT a class. This is an ingame addendum, which means no training time, no special skills and no bonuses at all. You just sign up for the church you want to follow, ingame, and you will be going trough a enter ceremony (each of the religions have different ones) that will confirm you to your faith. This ceremony is called the Confirmation.

And as for another thing, there will be no skills attached to the addendums, so you won’t need anything to become a “Holy Dude”.

  7. Ankan says:

I like this change. It will integrate the religions even more. I was a bit shocked by the title, but while reading I realized that this will not actually remove the classes, but make them more diverse.

The only objection I have is that you didn’t separate it from the class-system. I think it would had been interesting to (even more) enable anyone to join the church. Just like other organisation, like the Eye or Mage Guild.
Almost that has been done, but by going through the Confirmation you need to distance yourself from non-divine power, therefore it seem like something more for the ‘elite’.
By making it just like any other organisation by game rules, but special in its own way – like those rituals and things – it will…

… and by this point I start to think in a different direction. By forcing you to make some kind of sacrifice will be more like the church way. What I thought of before was to make it more like anyone interested could go through the ceremony. But going through the ceremony will change the character in a new way on. By not making it available to everyone it will be more special. So ignore the previous statements and lets just all suffer from amnesia.

Good work. By making the holy classes add-ons to other classes will in my opinion make them better. They might not be all-priest or all-holy-warior, but it will sure simplify everything.
By having two classes that is each divided in three different groups (previously 12!) makes up to many combinations that have to be considered. It is easier to take these as small extras that change the character but takes the base-skills from another class.
To keep them as classes would add up to many different prayers and rituals.

  8. Herid Fel says:

Hehe, at first I started to disagree with your comment, then you changed your opinion and I sufferd amnesia… or did I?

However, I’m glad that you like it and well, sorry that you all have chosen a subclass, so you can use them yet.

But well, if you die, whenever that may be, you will have some new stuff to try out…
